Default Horay for Keselowski! & question - 08-07-2009 , 10:15 AM

I'll admit I have not been paying very close attention
this year, and forgotten a lot of what I once knew,
but after reading the posts re: Mike Wallace
(start & park), I went and found
http://www.nascar.com/races/cup/2009/data/standings_official.html

I see what seems to me interesting:
40th place, Brad Keselowski, 787 points, 7 starts, 1 win,
3 top 10s, $988,784
Just seems that of 7 starts, getting 3 finishes in top ten = good!

Meanwhile, at what place is a person an automatic qualifier?
(recalling it around #33, 35 or 37??)

How in the world did
P.J. Jones get one start, & $72,490,
but zero points?

He did not register until after the deadline...

Keselowski runs a Hendrick car...while I think he's a talented
driver, the results say more for the Hendrick cars than for his
skill (and before anyone says "sometimes Keselowski drives for
Phoenix/James Finch", those are Hendrick cars when they're Chevies.
When they come out of the Phoenix shop, they're Dodges).

If I understand the question correctly, 35th in owners points.

As Dan said, the car was entered after the deadline. This, I
think, is a fairly new rule (last few years), it seems to me that
cars used to get points based on finishing position regardless
of how late they entered. And I really can't see the point of
the rule (it's particularly silly considering a car which fails
to qualify can get points).

Regardless of where the equipment is coming from, BK has run very well
considering his level of experience in Cup. He's certainly performed far
better than a certain very, very popular driver with similar equipment.

Keselowski is such a nice, southern name, dontcha think? 8^)

Automatic qualifier for what?
For each race, it's the top 35, but in owner points, not driver
points.
(Do they still award owner points for non-qualifiers? I think it's
31, 28, 25, on down for the non-qualifiers.)

Yes. Down to one point.
When was the last time a race had at least 54 entries?

The 2009 Daytona 500 had 56 cars complete qualifying.

Thank you, everyone. For all answers.
Took me a bit to figure out what you said/implied.
OK, P.J.J. did start, and actually finish (somewhere),
but due to late 'entry', was not elgible to get points. OK.

Any time you see "PE" for race points, that stands for "Post Entry" and
means the race entry was received after the deadline. I believe the deadline
is 13 days prior to the event, but that is just off the top of my head, so
don't quote me on that unless i am right. 8^)
