I have never been to the Preakness. I have been to the Indianapolis 500 or
505 in some cases and there are a lot of girls in the infield who are proud
of what their Momma gave them.

One time my group included a guy who was really into the Indy 500 and he
brought the coolers and the beer and the Jack Daniels and the radio (old
days) and the lawn chairs and everything else he could get into the infield.
He said "maybe this year I can see the race". He was not trying to be
witty. The fact is that in each of the previous years he had drank himself
into a stupor and missed the race entirely.

The horse racing fan base is probably not so alcohol induced so they see
their races.

The Kentucky Derby and the Preakness were fun to watch on the teevee because
that one horse. Even if you are a horse racing dummy in regards to breeding
and training and distances and all of that you can still see that the horse
can really pick 'em up and lay 'em down and even when the race is over he
still wants some more. If it is possible for a hay burner to be a
competition monster that is the one to lay your money on. He may get beat
in the Belmont because some sneaky owner is going to insert a fresh horse
but even so that horse is a gamer.

In terms of entertainment value the horse race Saturday was much

than
the dumbass all-star NASCAR race.

In the horse race the first horse did not know when he passed the
start/finish stripe so he just kept on galloping for an extra 1/8 mile
and
the jockey man could not get him whoaed up. When the outrider
companion
horse tried to catch up the race horse was acting like he wanted to
race
the
outrider horse. Then the lady jockey TV commentator showed up on her
horse
and the race horse finally started to act right. I cannot recall the
name
of that lady TV commentator but from hearing her talk she certainly
does
seem to know a lot about race horses. She was all casual about the way
that
the fired-up race horse was acting up and played it off like it was no
big
thing. Cool is as cool does.

The stupid week-wasting all-star race was as boring as it always is.
Somebody won a million dollars but that is not a big deal because
somebody
has to finish first. It was nice that is was the first win for Kasey
Kahne
in the Bud livery so that they do not get shut out this season. That
is
all
it was. The all-star race is just very slightly better than a complete
off
week but not by much in my lights.

They are paying that race horse 50 million dollars for doing the bad
thing.
Who said that animals were dumb?

Umm, Big Brown wouldn't stop because of a combination of instinct and
adrenaline. Also, appears the big guy is a closer, so he needs to
have a horse ahead of him to make him want to catch up.

The outrider's horse is just another racehorse to one that is hyped up
after running fast and turning left. Competitive edge and desire is
what makes a great Thoroughbred racehorse great! They are all bred to
run, but some are just better at it than others.

Charlsey Canty (sp?) is the woman announcer and she has forgotten more
about horses than most people will ever know!

As for the $50million, Big Brown will see lots and lots of hay, grass
and grain, but no money. Since it isn't edible, horses just don't
really care about how much money you are offering them! The owners on
the other hand will see LOTS and LOTS of money, and maybe even more,
if this wonderful, awe-inspiring piece of horseflesh manages to win
the Triple Crown in three weeks at the Belmont Stakes!

Sandy, THT
(I have NEVER let Reason to Shout run as fast as possible because I am
pretty sure the brakes that I have worked on developing over the last
6 years would be completely shot to Hell if I let him "return to the
track!" But then again, if he is as lazy as he was earlier today,
maybe a gallop would wake him up a bit!!! ;-))

For the next race the owners of Big Brown would be well served to get a
AQHA
for an outrider. A normal pony cannot keep up.- Hide quoted text -

- Show quoted text -

Lots of those outrider horses are retired racehorses, and I believe
the owners don't have a lot of say in which horse does which job.
Reason ran 29 races in 2 years, and then spent 2 more years as a pony
horse (both parade and outrider) after that. They like the retired
racehorses because very little at the track spooks them after they
finish racing.

Sorry, but QH are only fast in the 1/4 mile. Kind of like drag racers
of the horse world. But BOY can those puppies accelerate!!! (Ducking
all the things being thrown at me by the QH owners of the world! ;-))

Sorry, will try to keep facts out of discussions in the future! ;-)
Sandy, THT
(I may complain about the big lug, but I wouldn't trade Reason for all
the other horses out there, especially on a day like today when he was
just so darned fun to ride! He even walked through the woods with all
the distractions like a perfect gentleman!)

I was just making a joke that they would need a Quarter Horse to catch Big
Brown after the wire. Do not feel bad if your sense of humor cannot keep
up
to my sense of humor any more than a normal horse can catch Big Brown.

Them ugly little quarter horses are not very pretty and they are not very
well bred but they do one thing well.- Hide quoted text -

Hey, be careful. Quarter Horses are the NUMBER ONE breed worldwide,
mainly because of their versatility, but also because unless they have
lots of thoroughly-stupid-bred in them (called Appendix QHs,) their
temperments are had to beat! I'll just stick with my crazy racehorse,
thank you, since I have been accused of being just a bit crazy!
Sandy, THT
(guess we are both missing each others' humor, but hey, can't win them
all!)

I was just saying that the Preakness winner acted like he had not had enough
and just wanted to keep running. That horse jockey teevee lady did not even
pay that horse no mind. I do not know who she is but she sure does know a
lot about horses. She was just talking to the jockey and acting like the
horse was not acting up. That is cool.

No matter what happens in terms of the Triple Crown that teevee lady should
be at least nominated for the teevee award for sports journalism. She just
rode her pony right up alongside that fractious horse and played it off.

I guess if a person knows a lot about horses they know that a horse cannot
hurt them but it is still sort of impressive to see a hundred pound human
face down a 1000 pound horse.

I do not like the all-star race wasting a perfectly good week in the middle
of the season. It also looks stupid to have NASCAR races in the middle of
November. If NASCAR is tired of getting kicked to the curb by the fans when
football season starts they should put that worthless all-star race at the
end of November. That would at least give them one more week in which they
are not competing with football.
