What happened?
He outperformed his talent by about 20 places.

Not at all. He survived the race to end up there. Some of the drivers
that typically finish ahead of him had problems.

Junior has been the highest finishing Hendrick car exactly once all season,
and that was at a restrictor plate race. In contrast, he has been the lowest
finishing Hedrick car 7 times, and has been the second worst Hendrick
finisher 10 times.

What's really gotta be embarrassing for Jr. is that Brad Keselowski has a
win and just as many top 5's and top 10's as Junior, while only starting 7
races to Junior's 19 starts.

Jr.'s popularity has nothing to do with driving skills. He's just a
mid-pack driver that sells a ton of merchandise.

Since by your responses you feel he is medium talent at best, how hard did
you laugh when he spoke about driving open wheel at Indy?

I didn't laugh at all. I think its sad that he has to go out looking
for some place else to run. Especially taking a step down to the minor
leagues.

I don't have a problem with Jr. He's doing great in NASCAR. He's
finishing races, pretty much staying out of the way of the better
drivers, not taking out the leaders anymore. He can even find his pit
OK. He's a safe bet for a top-25 or top-30 finish pretty much every
race. There a reason he's NASCAR's most popular driver, just not for
his talent as a driver.

He would probably be competitive at Indy. He could finish in the top-10
in most races in that series. But he better hurry, the IRL might not
last too long. The purse strings have been tightened.

He won't be another Montoya, but he could probably drive competitively
with his Indy counterpart, Danica Patrick. Might even win an event.

. What I wonder is how much longer he'll
produce milk for RH. Sooner or later his fans will migrate to other
drivers who actually win once in a while.

actually a true fan is a fan no matter what... only the wagon jumpers will
hop around to the flavor of the week... that said, I am not a fan of Jr, no
matter how popular he is, and I am not a "hater" either... he's just
there...

Ditto, here. He's kind of a non-event.
