Default I Didn't Watch The Race - 10-06-2003 , 09:08 AM

......and for the first time in over a decade I missed a race and I really
didn't care.

Aero-push, Single file racing, Fuel milage racing, Cookie cutter tracks,
Helton, Race control, 5 laps minimum for every caution for debris, Corporate
drivers, Anger management, Boogity Boogity Boogity, Matching templates,
Restrictor plates, Lucky dawg lap, Hollywood Hotel, Actions detrimental to
stock car racing, The yellow line rule, Benny Parsons, Burn outs, "We had a
great car I feel bad for my crew", "Ooooooh he didn't thank his sponsor",
Freezing the field, Mysterious rule book, Provisionals, 8 time winner
trailing a 1 time winner in the points, No Labor Day Southern 500, New
Hampshire has 2 dates, North Wilks has none, Single car teams don't stand a
chance, Owner operator teams stand even less of a chance, Wind tunnels,
"This Champ won't represent Nascar well, Drivers are corporate
spokesman.......

<sigh>

me neither. I spent "quality time" on the video box with the EA Sports
Na$car game all afternoon. Talk about getting tired of cookie cutter
tracks, try that sometime....

But I definitely watched Tony & Carm at 8!

It sucked. I did laundry, transplanted some house plants, played Zero Hour

In the middle of the race, I watched the last hour of "Eyes Wide Shut".

Damn, I love Kubrick.

Holy shit. If THAT'S not a sign that the race was boring as hell, I dont
know what is.

Me two. "Full Metal Jacket" is still my favorite. Followed closely by
2001. And "Dr. Strangelove".

Not Kubrick, but have you seen "Irreversible"?

Nope. Details?

I also rewatched "Wild Things" yesterday. Kinda goofy, but it was an
amusing pot-boiler done with a lot of style. Then I discovered the film
was directed by John McNaughton, who did "Henry, Portrait of a Serial
Killer", as well as a few episodes of my favorite TV show, H:LotS, so it
made sense afterwards why I liked the aesthetic of the film so much.

Or it might just have been the sight of Neve Campbell pawing Denise
Richards' bare boobies.

As for "Eyes Wide Shut", sure, the pace may have been a bit slow, but I
liked it. And the whole package worked: the plot, the dialog, the score,
the cinematography, the lighting, the casting, Tom Cruise's character's
overwhelming overt sense of self-confidence, coupled with his internal
doubts about his wife's mental infidelities. It all just "fit" so well.
