Default I read that 56 of 117 Div 1-A schools are in bowls... - 01-01-2005 , 07:29 PM

So I would guess that about 20 - 24 of the 28 games have been played by
now. Surely you don't think that all of those were / are worthy of your
time, do you?

Several of the schools going to bowls have lost 4 or 5 games; for all I
know, maybe there are schools with losing records in bowl games.

Obviously, your football watching choices are yours to make. I'm
helping you average out the TV ratings - I haven't watched a football
game on TV for over 30 years. (A few years back, my mother made me take
her to a semi-pro game in Las Vegas, so I have attended one game in that
time.)

When all the college games are done, and the pros get busy with
playoffs, you'll have a bridge to get you to Daytona! It's probably
wise to keep your TV warmed up between NASCAR seasons....

Enjoy!

only one bowl eligible team did not get an invite....akron....two more,
clemson and south carolina, refused bids to punish their teams after they
brawled.

In general, you need a winning record (typically 6-5) to be in a bowl game.
Though frankly I am not sure what would happen if a conference champion had a
winning record and the bowl game had an automatic bid for that particular
conference champion :-)

You have to have at least 6 wins against Division IA and have a winning
record. 6-5 would make it, but 6-6 would not.

Assuming you meant "did not have a winning record", then they do not
qualify for a bowl game and the bowl with the automatic bid gets
to select someone else.

Yes, you have to have a winning record....unless a conference with a
bowl tie-in has no teams with a winning record. Then if a team is 6-6 it
gets the automatic bid. I assume if there is no 6-6 team, the bowl can
select an at-larhe team.

Correct. In 2001 they got nailed by Colorado State in the New Orleans
Bowl. Don't know this, but I am guessing either no other teams
qualified, and/or they won the Sun Belt and thus the tie-in factor
overruled the winning record thingie.
