Yeah, you wouldn't see a sport like football having a team with the name of
a city (or state) with their home field in another. Or would you. . . .

I don't care about other sports.
If it doesn't have wheels and goes fast, I don't care about it.

In that regard, we are not very different. Although I do pay attention to
one sport played on the pitch, just not that much here in the US of A.

isn't Chicagoland about as far from Chicago as Daytona is from either
Orlando or Jacksonville? ~90 miles?

More like 30 miles.
From downtown Chitown, exit 293, to Joliet, exit 253, is 40 miles.
It's about another 10 miles from the interstate exit to the track,
so call it 50 miles.

Several tracks are not really in the town they say.

Chicagoland is in Joliet, IL (50 miles away)
Charlotte Motor Speedway (now called Lowes) is in Concord, NC
Phoenix track is in Avondale, AZ
etc, etc, etc

How many people would know where any of these are without
looking at a map if they called them the towns they really are in?

Now I do realize its the St. Louis market.

The stands do not even face St. Louis though. They face the landfill just
to the east.....

And the Iowa Speedway is in Newton, not Des Moines. Big whoop.
Newton is "famous" for having some of the best Maid-Rites ever, but
those Nascar fans who aren't familiar with "flyover" country might
recognize Des Moines being the state capitol, so everyone says "Des
Moines" instead of Newton (which is about 30 miles away) ;-)

Anyone notice Landon Cassill in the Busch race? His first race -
caused one problem (but Mike Bliss is SUCH a whiner!) and was the
victim in the second, which took him out of the race. But his first
Busch race---qualified 6th and was running up front for much of his
time on the track - his pit crew gained him 3 spots during a pit stop.

He's an HMS development driver - from just down the road from me - and
just turned 18. He'll be in the Busch Indy race this weekend, too.
