Hope Dr. G is holding up. - Al That sucks Al :-( We lose our power a lot in the boonies, though usually for hours rather than days! Everytime we have weather forecast that may include enough wind, lightning, or ice to bring trees and branches down on powerlines, I run the bathtubs full of water, just for toilet tank refills. It's come in handy more than once! We filled up 2 of our bathtubs full of water, boy are we glad we did for flushing. I found some ice about 20 miles south of Charlottesville, which kept us and the neighbor going. We had 2 flats of bottled water, down to one now. Poor little Jake though, he isn't sleeping well. it is cool enough outside, but with the dead calm the past 3 nights, it just isn't carrying into the house. The gas grill is getting a workout, and the Smokey Joe charcoal grill runs alot to keep a kettle of hot water going. The worst part is they have had power 1/4 mile from us for the past 2 days. The only good thing is my wife has relented and will allow me to now buy the backup power system I wanted to buy all along. A bit too late for this one, and hopefully it will never need to be used. I did get to see the last 50 laps or so of the race yesterday. I thought that was some pretty hard racing between the 19 & 12. As a Newman fan I was pleased, though I was having a problem understanding all these new rules that suddenly appeared while I was away from TV/computer. - Al |

On a related subject, there's been a rumor flying around here for about a week that the big eastcoast blackout started at the Conesville power plant about an hour northeast of where I live.... American Electric Power is denying their plant caused it, but it was the first to shut down, around 1:15 that day... the subsequent crashes cascaded out from it. |

From what I understand we missed that one by mere seconds because some engineers somewhere were paying attention and were able to divert power to another grid. Otherwise it would have reached further into the south. |

I believe he lives around Petersburg. We lost our power for 5 days during the blizzard of '78. I can't imagine losing it for 2 freakin' weeks!! |

Flooding at some major intersections. Sort of makes one seriously start repenting I haven't seen any of thoseguys with the big signs yet, but maybe they got blown away by the winds. |
