that Na$car conceived "the chase" to stop a driver from gaining an
insurmountable points lead & points race the last ten or so to secure a
championship.
What do you suppose Jimmie Johnson has done so far in the chase & in
particular, yesterday?
This championship hunt was over the day it started & everybody except the
geniuses running the sport knew it.
The one I feel the worst for is Tony Stewart who had one helluva season only
to have it taken away for no better reason than to keep the less intelligent
portion of the fan base interested...
Also have to give kudos to N$ for making the racing at 'Dega even worse than
it was before if anyone could even fathom that being a possibility.
Instead of there being the likelihood of "the big one" happening at any
given time of the race, They've GUARANTEED one within the last 30
laps.....Excellent.

Can't disagree with anything you said, but I'd like to
add that NASCAR is guilty of wanting everybody to like
them. In trying to expand their viewership and bring in
new fans, they have changed the product to the point where
their base-fans don't like it. I don't know who would be
leading the championship battle with the old points, but
clearly TS deserves better. That team has had a great
season. The same could be said about JG last year. And,
BTW, I'm a JJ fan. It's a 10-race championship and it
seems like the 48 team is the only one that knows that.

That is utter nonsense ............... and probably not terribly intelligent

The point you are attempting to make here has missed me.
Under the old points system, Stewart is breathing down JJ's neck (less than
two finishing positions separate the two). Gordon is well within reach also.
Under the chase system, an act of God may not be enough to help either Smoke
or Gordon.

How so?
Was the system changed mid way through the season, and he wasn't told?
Aren't they all using the same system for accumulating points?

They started using this current system in 2004.
My bet is, they all have gotten the memo by now.

If we are going to continue to hold on to the (yawn) "old" system.
why not go back to the one used in 1948?

Come on, Man... we gotta move on.

The 48 would still be leading, either way.
(You knew that, right?)

He'd be leading by only 7 points. Sure would be more exciting than the
current runaway in points we have now, eh?

My only point was, was that under either system Johnson would be the
leader. That's it. The chase is stupid period. I say, you get one point per
win. Whoever wins the most races, wins the points title. Everybody else
loses. Simple enough.
