The average daily temp on that day is about -2C, or about 29F.

I wish I could go, it's the coolest thing. There are 52,000 seats -
30,000 were sold to season ticket holders, 15,000 went to sponsors, etc,
and 7,000 were available to the general public. They got 700,000
applications, from every state and provinve.

It will be cool.

What am I NOT getting Barry? He screwed up bad, and no excuse that

i never tried to make any excuse. He made a mistake, end of story.

The discussion was about the tendency of top-level drivers to believe
that they were not at fault for whatever event. I have repeatably,
consistently observed this behavior in top level professional race
drivers since I've been watching racing, and that's since I was 4
years old. This observation leads me to believe that it is a
necessary part of the psychological makeup of successful race-car
drivers.

I'm not making any comment about what they "should" or "should not"
do.
I was commenting on what they *do* do.

I'm a positivist, not a normativist.

Well, I wasn't even bashing, just saying that the boy messed up good.
More messing up: Gordon quoted on NASCAR website as complaining about
no pit road rules which would have prevented him from driving through
Waltrip's pit - Like someone said, Duh! If you know it's a mistake,
don't do it! THEN, Loomis is quoted as saying "the driver should be
penalized." Does Loomis think he's secure in his job? Or did the
writer make a mistake and attribute that quote to the wrong person?
The quote essentially had Loomis claiming "OUR guys on the 24 AND 48."
Sounds like the writer messed up.

That's the kind of sporting event you don't just attend.. you SURVIVE.
It would take many Molsons for me :-)

The coldest I've ever been in my life was a Browns-Bengals game in mid-
December at Cleveland Stadium on the shore of Lake Erie, 20 degrees, -24
wind chill. My face was numb for hours afterward. But goddamn, that's
football!

At work last night, we were making NFL DVDs. There was one on the Ice Bowl.
Going through the highlights of the game, interviews with some of the players,
etc.

One of the refs said he blew his whistle at the beginning of the game and it
froze to his lip. When he pulled it off, he pulled skin with it. The rest saw
him bleeding, no whistles were used the rest of the game.

Some of the players said they still can't go out into the cold for long, they
still get numbness of their fingers etc after a short time of being outside.

The 30,000 season ticket holders, I assume, are combined from both teams.(?)

No. The 16,000 or so home season ticket holders were each entitled to
purchase an extra three tickets each. It looks like about half of them
chose to. I'm guessing that if they knew how popular this event would
have been, they all would have maxed out their allotment.

Actually, most all of the season ticket holders probably took advantage of
the offer. There aren't 16,000 different season ticket holders. The Oilers
arena has a capacity of 17,000. Most season ticket holders for the full
season (I know a percentage of "season tickets" are mini plans) have 2-4
seats. A few might have a single seat, some might have 6-8. In other words,
it's a rough guess to say that there are 8,000 season ticket accounts.

If 8,000 season ticket holders (or accounts) each had two seats per game
they would account for 16,000 tickets sold per game. If each were allowed to
purchase an additional 3 tickets for the outdoor venue, but the tickets were
limited to 30,000, then some customers were turned away.

Is ESPN covering this game? Looks like fun.
