They REALLY need to stick it to them this time. They are getting
caught WAY too often. Look at Harvick's chief last year.....I think
his ass is STILL sore.
Seems like his sponsor would be getting kinda tired of this and speak up,
this looks bad for his sponsor Lowes for their car to be found ilegal all
the time.

Crush the car and the cheating will stop.

Mark

DQ him from the 500 and it'll stop too. 0 points for the race means a LOT
more than the price of the car.

Worse yet, I hear it was a magnesium track bar!

Who knows what could have happened?

From jayski.com

Knaus Ejected from 2006 Daytona 500 Activities: NASCAR announced today
that NASCAR Nextel Cup Series crew chief Chad Knaus has been ejected
from any further participation in 2006 Daytona 500 activities as a
result of a rules infraction discovered following pole qualifying runs
Sunday. Knaus is the crew chief for the #48 Lowe's Chevy driven by
Jimmie Johnson. NASCAR said the #48 car failed post-qualifying
template inspection in the rear window area. The qualifying time
posted by the #48 was disallowed and Johnson will have to start at the
rear of the field in the first of two 150-mile qualifying races
Thursday. The qualifying time of the #96 DLP Chevy driven by Terry
Labonte was also disallowed. NASCAR officials said an unapproved
carburetor was found on the 96 car. Labonte will also have to start
from the rear of the field in Thursday’s qualifying races. Additional
penalties for both cars will be determined following the Daytona
500.(NASCAR PR)(2-13-2006)

Did Home Depot worry about the confiscated 20 car a few years back?
Didn't think so....

and the rear tires were rubbing and smoking during his run.

I am shocked that a Hendrick Motorsports car would have illegal
traction
control. Shocked I say. And to drag Jeff Gordon into this mess?
Shocking, just shocking......

Not Traction control. A device to raise the rear window, taking the air
off the spoiler.
My punishment, let them run this week since they have already attempted
to
qualify. Suspend the whole team for at least one race. They would then
lose their free guaranteed start for the whole season for failure to
attempt all races. Make them work to get in the races.

$50,000 fine
50 point penalty
suspend Chad Knaus for 5 races

How about just force them to make the car legal. Is this about racing or is
it about punishment?

Any time our car was found to be illegal (weight, every time), we forfeited
our money, points and trophy for the evening. And by less than three
pounds, both times. (on a 3,500 lb legal weight).

Happened to us once as well on a air cleaner spacer that had been approved
by the previous season's tech inspector.

Lost points & money for the evening.

Shouldn't the be a penalty? What's the deterrent to cheating if there's no
penalty??

Better explaination from jayski.com......

disallowed by NASCAR. There are a bunch of other issues in the garage
area. In fact, some issues with the #31 team of Jeff Burton. That's
right. Your Daytona 500 polesitter. Those issues have to do with the
engine, and that's being hotly discussed in the garage area right now.
In the media center after the Budweiser Shootout, NASCAR said it is
researching several things from post-500 qualifying tech, including
Burton's car as well as the #24 car of Jeff Gordon.(FoxSports), see
qualifying results on my Daytona 500 Qualifying/Grid page.
See? Just rumors to stir things up - of course, they're going to look
at the top two Q spots. They always do a really thorough post-Q
inspection on the pole-sitter. But there is NOTHING further in Jayski
about the top two Q'fiers, so, boys, this is how rumors start and grow.
Shame on Jayski and shame on DW for perpetuating this stuff.
