Default ? for the Junior fans - 05-02-2007 , 12:26 PM

As reported on Jayski.com. there are currently merger talks going on between
DEI & RYR. Furthermore, it is reported that Ford has had informal talks with
DEI about switching brands.

So my question for the DEJ fans is this: If the merger takes place and DEI
switches to Fords, and Junior stays at DEI, will you still root for him if
he's driving a blue oval instead of a bowtie?

IOW, are more loyal to Chevy, or DEJ?

If DEI converts to Ford, a chasm in the time-space continuum will develop,
instantly destroying the universe.

In reality, I just think that DEI is using the RYR negotiations as a tool to
get more and better support from GM.
It ain't a done deal with RYR by any stretch of the imagination.

Oh brother, this thread is going to have every toothless idiot in America
posting a response. As if there is any difference between a Ford, Chevy or
Toyota in NASCAR cup. They are custom built cars that have no parts from their
respective sponsors. A Ford, Chevy and Toyota are all interchangeable by just
switching what logo is pasted on.

Junior has already stated for the record in a recent interview:

"I'll drive anything as long as it's a Chevrolet"

Sr. was adamant about Fords after the 15 car debacle early in his career. He
probably had something in his will about Fords.

"Reportedly?" who reported this?

Buying RYR is just like investing in ENRON.

To the strict letter of your supposition "DEI merges with Yates and/or
otherwise becomes a Ford team AND DEJ stays with DEI", then I will
pretty much be done with NASCAR. DEJ fandom is one of the few things
left that attract me to the sport anymore to begin with and his
participation in the Chevy camp is a large factor in that.

And just like his dad who drove Fords for Bud Moore from 82-83 (IIRC?)
I can't root for a Blue Oval, regardless of its pilot. I think I was
rooting for RCR and Ricky Rudd and the Piedmont Airlines car while DES
was off in the evil Ford camp back then...feel free to correct, I know
some of you will. My memory past about 20 years back, is like swiss
cheese: there are a few holes.

If Junior bolts, then DEI's manufacturer affiliation is of little
concern to me, as I will follow him to whatever GM team he goes to or
starts, and will root him on from there, as much as I actually "root"
anymore, anyway.

EITHER WAY, my interest continues to fall off, even with Junior
currently at DEI and in a Chevy. I still root for the kid, but the
sport as a whole is passing us old fans by, and I find myself
recording more races (in case something actually worth watching
happens) and then watching less and less of the recordings. When I can
get thru a whole NASCAR race weekend, satisfactorily, by just watching
highlight packages on various channels, it is definitely not as
important to me as it once was. Combine that with my live attendance
schedule this year (2) compared to say 2000 (13), one can see that I'm
on the way out, regardless.

NASCAR realizes this and is adjusting for it...hence the *new fan*
attraction, beer can throwin' and all. NASCAR really doesn't want to
expend the effort needed on trying to bring back the old, now fading,
fans.

As usual yore memory does not fail u or us.
What is surprising tho is, yore mfr loyalty since the end of stock bodies
a long time ago.

I really don't want to state a 'me too', but if The COT doesn't produce
green flag passes for the lead similar to The CTS, i'll need to find
something else to occupy the majority of my time.

While the bodies have become rather generic, the association with the
manufacturers, aka "factory support" is still very much in place and I think
that has a profound effect on brand loyalty. The differences in brands goes
a bit beyond the decals, all prejudices aside.
