Not if you go the back way on Richard Petty Blvd back to route 85. I
get out of there in about 5 minutes and am back on 285 in 20 minutes.

I didn't know that. Thanks, I will give that a go. I was at the race
in October. When I took off from the airport at 7:30pm from Atlanta,
there was still a lot of traffic coming from the south. Atlanta is one
of my favorite tracks.
I have been taking the following route; which Joy told me about on RASN
about five years ago. Here are her notes (though I have it memorized now
and found some even better shortcuts):

From Six Flags take 20 east to 285 South/East. Get off on Interstate ;85
south . Go two or three exits to Hwy. 74 (Peachtree City). Turn left (the
Racetrack gas station will be on your right). It will be about eight miles
into the town of Peachtree City. Stay on 74 through PeachtreeCity until 74
dead ends at Ga. 85. Turn left on Ga. 85 towards Fayetteville. Go about
five minutes on Ga. 85, and look for an Eckerd drug Store on your right.
Kroger supermarket is across the street on your left. Turn right at the
Eckerd. At the next stop sign (could be a light by now) turn right onto Hwy.
92. Take Hwy 92 for about five miles into the town of Woolsey. At the heart
of town you will turn left at the gas station. At this point there are signs
for the track. you are about five minutes away..if that. At the gas station
they are always selling boiled peanuts(welcome to Georgia) and the State
Troopers are out watching the cars go by) You will take a left at the gas
station, go about four miles, take a right at the sign for the track
(trooper again at the corner.). go about a mile and turn left at the next
sign. this road brings you into the back of the track and becomes richard
Petty Blvd.
There is a field on the right where parking is usually free before you see
the track. It is only about a five to ten minute walk from the field to the
track. You will be directly behind the weaver Grandstands
