Default King Richard at Churchill Downs - 05-05-2007 , 07:41 PM

Anyone else see Richard in the camera shot right after the running of
the derby? I thought it needed wheels for Richard to be interested.
Obviously not.

Hotpass said he met Queen Elizabeth II, while at the Derby today.

Did he try to pick her up?

Did he throw a full beer at the winning horse at the end? Seems like it
would promote the sport's "core" fan base.

Richard himself said he didn't meet her, but he saw her in the stands
and gave her a wave, which he couldn't tell if she returned or not.

Shirley, Richard would know if he met her or not.

Are those sunglasses, .... or glasses for the blind (that the King wears) ??
OF COURSE the Queen waved back ....... the Queen wave, ... it's constant,
..... i.e. a return gesture to the adoring masses

Maybe not .......... he's not the brightest bulb aglow

No, just horsepower, silly! ;-)

Seriously, I wondered what he was doing there also. Except for
mentioning that the King was there, no other explanation was made
about RP. I just assumed he either knew the horse's owners and/or
trainer, because it is harder to get anywhere near the winner's circle
for any of the major stakes races than you would believe. Street
Sense's value just about tripled on Saturday's win alone, trust me!
Sandy, THT
(that kind of horsepower I know intimately, trust me! ;-))

It's all politics ........... i.e. "buying votes": See;

Petty will leave the Richmond (Va.) International Raceway Saturday morning and fly into Louisville (Ky.) where he will be escorted to the most famous horse track. He will be a guest of Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher and Kentucky Speedway co-owner Jerry Carroll. Petty will meet other celebrities, VIP's and take part in photo opportunities. Queen Elizabeth II, who is currently in the middle of a six-day trip to the United States, will also be in attendance. Saturday will be the first Kentucky Derby for both attendees.

More than tripled, I'd say. Interestingly, ... many of the experts say mommy had to be a runner. In this case, mommy was a plug, but granny could sure as hell run. And daddy had credentials akin to DE

Hell, those same experts said that Secretariat should never have been
able to run as well as he did. The odds in breeding a top
Thoroughbred are so against the breeders! On any given day, any given
horse can win against any kind of odds, if the stars are all correctly
aligned. Handicapping horses will break your heart, but oh, they are
SOOOOOOOO beautiful to watch run!
