Default Lap 3 at the Busch race - 02-18-2006 , 10:07 PM

Anyone else find it ironic that during the lap in which they were honoring
#3, the racer who delivered the fatal blow ending his life cuts a tire?

The only fatal blow delivered that day was from a concrete wall.

Sterling was in his ass for the last 5 laps before he wrecked. And Sterling
caused it. That's what the guy was alluding to. Click on the "Final
Laps" video: http://www.nascar.com/special/earnhardt/

SM NEVER touched DES's car on the last lap in turn 4.

Rusty came up the middle and took the air off of DES's spoiler causing
him to get loose and he lost control of the car.

And what the OP is talking about, is today during the BUSCH race they
had a silent lap on lap 3, during the "silent lap" Kenny Schrader cut
down a tire and spun out.

The OP is insinuating that KS delivered the "fatal blow" in the 2001
Daytona 500.

Sterling got DE loose from either a bump or by taking the air off the read
of DE's car. Sterling had been bumping him repeatedly for the last few
laps, trying to get him loose so he could pass DE.

Earnhardt, running fourth, grazed Sterling Marlin's car, crashed into the
wall at the high-banked fourth turn going about 180 mph, and was smacked
hard by Ken Schrader.

http://www.nascar.com/2001/NEWS/02/18/earnhardt_stewart/index.html
His No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet was bumped into the spin by
Sterling Marlin's closely following No. 40 Dodge between Turns 3 and 4 of
the 2.5-mile speedway as a tangled pack of cars raced to the checkered flag.

http://www.racehippie.com/nascar-history/history-of-nascar.php
Although there were some reports that Marlin touched Earnhardt's bumper,
most observers in the press box concluded that there was no contact and that
Earnhardt lost control because Marlin's car disrupted the airflow across
Earnhardt's rear spoiler.

It was Sterling Marlin, not Rusty. He (Marlin) had been doing it for the
last 5 minutes of the race - trying to get DE loose and pass him.

I believe the initial impact with the wall killed DE instantly.

Ohhh.....so now it's Rusty's fault? This just gets better and better.
My take on this lap 3 thing of today......it's DE himself saying "Enough
with the silent lap 3!"
He wasn't one for all of this attention.

I didn't know that the driver of the Busch Series #3 car lost his life too.

Remember the old days, before you starting making moonshine and doing
nightly taste-tests? Back then you didn't have DE talking to you! I am
worried about those voices - you sure there is no medicine for it?
