You might check with the Atlanta Public Library.

Best bet, eBay. Quality could be an issue though, as VCRs back in the 80s
weren't the best in the world (and were larger than desktop computers of the
late 80s and early 90s), and VHS and Beta tape that old will age badly as
well. I wouldn't pay much if anything for a tape that I wasn't able preview
for quality. YMMV.

Man, remember those old VCR's? Expensive, too. Especially when you factor
inflation in. And that idiotic dip switch, push button programming system.
It couldn't possibly have been less intuitive.

Oh yeah, had those monsters both in school and one at the house too. And
"that" programming logic is why the old "I'm not smart enough to make my VCR
stop blinking 12:00" jokes still abound IMO.

As I recall, most of the early machines were top loading too - meaning you
needed twice the height in your VCR's space just so you could load and eject
the tapes. Now look at today, I have a 250 GB Tivo-equipped satellite
receiver that can download shows to my DVD-R that has a HD in it that is
10000 times larger than the first HD I ever owned (100GB vs 10MB) and both
of them together aren't as big as our first VCR...of course, I loaded
programs onto my first personal computer with audio cassete tapes too...(a
high-tech-for-the-time Tandy TRS-80) lol

Though that's not "really" old school yet. My retired engineer father-in-law
used to program computers with punch cards...and marvels at how computers
fit onto desks today, instead of taking up whole rooms, complete with their
own HVAC systems...

You are right. I almost made that comment in my post. I remember
purchasing my first on screen programable VCR. Wow. Now that was practical
application of technology.

Yeah, they were top loading. I guess I have a couple of years on you (not
many, though). I remember buying my first VCR for my apartment back in the
early 80's. I paid 900 bucks for that thing. It was a real Cadillac,
though. Or, at least back then. But I was single, only home 4 to 5 months
a year, and making nearly 60 grand. Yeah, I could afford it.

One of the reasons automation was slow to get to steam ships was the
requirement for the cooling. That said, as an engineer, you liked the ships
that were automated, because that means there was an air conditioned control
room in the engine room.
