I saw this over at the front page of Netscape last Friday. it is so
creepy, I think of this Ad every time I drive. For a person who loves
speed, I just got a little wake up flick in the forehead. I pasted

Perhaps you missed a point. The chance of the person that is struck living
is much higher at the lower speed. (I believe in this case the two speeds
were 30 and 40 not 80 but lets use those numbers) At 30 you are travelling
44 feet per second... At 40 you are travelling at 58.67 feet per second...
And at 80 you are moving at over 117 feet per second.. Now assume your
reaction time is identical at all speeds. Which speed do you think you have
a better chance of avoiding hitting them to start with? So not only do they
have a better chance of surviving the impact, you have a better chance of
avoiding the accident entirely.

And actually you will find judges a lot more understanding if the sober
driver accidently strikes someone at the posted speed then at a much higher
speed.

Sorry for going on but a 7 yr old boy was killed by a speeding high schooler
on our dead end street. He forgot something his girlfriend wanted and was
rushing home to retrieve it. I don't think the high schooler has fully dealt
with the issue either though he and his family moved less than a year after
the accident so we no longer have contact with them.
