They did not design the safer car so that people like Kurt Busch could use it as a weapon in the pits. Kurt Busch should have his credentials taken away for no less than two weeks and as much as six weeks. If Kurt Busch is not suspended for a bare minimum of two weeks it shows that NASCAR does not care anything about safety no matter how much they like to talk about it. ....and NASCAR shouldn't play favorites either. Tony's attack was more violent and malicious. There were many more innocent bystanders involved. Tony's tantrum SHOULD have resulted in a suspension. Quote> Chicago Sun-Times, Mar 26,2001, by Jenna Fryer: "Stewart was running fourth on Sunday with Gordon right behind him as they headed into Turn 4 on the final lap. Gordon tapped Stewart in the rear, causing him to spin out into the wall. Stewart motored around the track on the cool-down lap in pursuit of Gordon. By the time he made it around, Gordon had entered pit row. Stewart made a hard left into the pits, maneuvered through the traffic and rammed into the back of Gordon. The hit caused Gordon to spin out and slam the retaining wall, which drew thunderous applause from the capacity crowd of 150,000. NASCAR immediately summoned Stewart while Gordon defended himself over the loudspeaker. "I had a great run going and was racing for position and he got sideways and just turned out on me," Gordon said, barely audible over the loud booing from the fans. "I did everything I could do to avoid hitting him and don't see anything wrong with what I did." Gordon said Stewart's postrace actions "didn't surprise me one bit." Stewart later said he was sorry for hitting Gordon. |
