That's a nice fantasy Rob, but I gotta say it, I just don't see a Dodge
winning the 500 outright, not without some big ones to take out a bunch of
Chevies that is...Nope, my bet goes to one of the big 3 Bowtie teams
getting
the win (HMS, DEI or RCR). My next best guess would be a Roush car if Ford
can get their aero right between now and then. If Dodge is forced to run
that hot-dog-wrapper-catcher-nose again this year, plate and downforce
tracks will continue to dog them IMO. A lot of that also depends on the
tires as well, which we have no idea about yet, and won't until
mid-January.

Since you are talking about winning I would have to suggest that JGR is a
much bigger bowtie than DEI.

Yeah, I do, but statistically speaking, returning Champs usually don't have
as good a season as the previous one.

And, Tony is Senior man at Gibbs now, and even with Denny Hamlin showing
he's the real late this past season, it is basically a rebuilding year over
there for them. I doubt Yeley will make it the whole season before being
replaced unless he can really step it up from his previous Cup attempts.
And, as it happens, Tony has become quite the points racer, and as such, has
been content to get top 5s at the plate tracks (usually by pushing the
leaders at the end). Unless he starts chasing more wins and less points,
plate wins will continue to elude him, purely IMHO of course. I may be
wrong, this may be the year he chances a 43rd place finish in order to grab
a Harley Earl trophy, dunno.

No, my actual "picks" for a pool of most likely to win the 500 this coming
year are: JG, JJ, DEJ, MTJ or KH and since none of them drive for JGR, I
didn't list that team. I think Gordon is overdue for another 500, & JJ is
primed for his first (depending on his CC situation of course). I think the
500 will end up being Dale Junior's race over the coming years, whereas his
dad only won it once. Truex and Harvick are my wildcards this year. Truex is
setup to be the next big thing in Cup, and has the talent to pull it off,
combined with a team known for plate track prowess, even if it has been slim
pickins the past few plate races...and Harvick/RCR always seems to do well
at plate tracks, and IMO, is about ready to break through for Childress and
get him another 500 win.

First off, Dodges suck at plate tracks.
Secondly, Mikey won races in cars that my grandmother could have won in.
And thirdly, he won't have junior around to push him to the win either.
My guess would be in the unlikely event that Mikey is in front of joonbug
with five laps to go, he will end up embedded in the fence, or doing barrel
rolls after joonyer bump drafts him out of his way coming out of a turn.
I empathize with those who feel the need to back an underdog, but Mikey
couldn't prosper in the best equipment that Na$car has to offer, so how do
you expect him to do well in second tier equipment?
It would not bother me in the least if Mikey proves me wrong, but it is
extremely unlikely that he will.

Ooops. I meant, following his admitted suck-ass year, he's due some good
fortune. And he has always been able to knock off the 500 after sucking the
year before...

Plus, I've been following this stuff for a LONG time now, and years start to
run together. Seems like just yesterday that Cale Yarborough retired. No
wait, yesterday, Cale tried to start TRAC and it failed, my bad again...lol
Just like, yesterday, NASCAR was cool, then Brian France took the reins, and
now it is beginning to suck the big one.
