Default Mikey The Biggest 0fer - 08-04-2009 , 10:09 AM

Mikey The Biggest 0fer
Michael Waltrip has NO Wins at non-Plate races in 653 Starts.
J.D. McDuffie had NO wins in his 653-race Cup career,
Buddy Arrington-560, Neil Castles-498, Jimmy Means-455, Cecil Gordon-450.
It took MW 463 Starts to get his 1st Points-Paying Cup Win at Daytona 2/01.

MW currently has a 182 Winless Streak since Dega'03.
Apparently Kenny Schrader has finished his Cup career with a 543 Start
Winless Streak-#1A-T, DMarcis-483, KPetty-406, BBodine-400.

MW has 745 Cup Starts (9th A-T) in 25 Seasons beginning in '85.
4 Wins is .0054% in 92 Plate Races, all with DEI'01-'03
39 Top5s is .0523%
127 Top10s (47th A-T) & a .1705%

So Waltrip has started 741 races that he failed to win. How's
that compare to other drivers:

R Petty: 1184 starts - 200 wins = 984 non-winning starts
Rudd: 906 starts - 26 wins = 880
Marcis: 883 starts - 5 wins = 878
T Labonte: 863 starts - 22 wins = 841
K Petty: 829 starts - 8 wins = 821
D Waltrip: 809 starts - 84 wins = 725
Elliott: 803 starts - 44 wins = 759
Marlin: 747 starts - 10 wins = 737
Martin: 743 starts - 39 wins = 704

(everyone else has less than 741 starts)

Wasn't actually intended to twist them...I got curious when you
compared Mikey to JD, and wanted to know who if anyone had started
more races that weren't wins.

And, of course, JD McDuffie and a host of others with a perfect
1.0000.

Yeah but they are very persistent and NOT quitters. Look at Brett and
Todd Bodine they both quit. I have more respect for someone who hangs
with it for the long haul. And I tip my hat to MW for keeping NAPA as
primary sponsor. Nobody else in the garage could have kept NAPA for
that long. And JD McDuffie hands down was a better man then any of
those other quitters that win a couple of races and then quit because
there not winning 2 races or more a year.

However having said that there is a time to hang it up. Case in point
is DW he won the championship 3 times yet he raced way past his time.
He should have quit in 1994 or 1995 or thereabouts instead of 2000
