I hope Reutimann has a good race. Seriously, why is Toyota so slow?

Well ..... first of all - brand new team(S), brand new race car .........
what did you expect ???

Second of all, ........ and keeping in mind all of the above, ...........
Michael Waltrip, Dave Blaney, Reutimann, Mayfield, the midget from CART,
the
professor from the trucks, the most hated guy in HMS, .......... and the
big
brown truck guy .................... not exactly a star_studded cast ....
so
what did you expect ??

Not exactly the worst in the field either. Considering how spec. this series
is now, I wouldn't think differences in manufacturer would really factor
that much either. It's just kind of surprising that they've been doing so
poorly IMO.

(well, Thunderbird sure made a mess of formatting that table)

Anyway, it's probably instructive to note that Jarrett and Vickers
missed the show, and Benson and Allmendinger are in. In other words,
you can't put too much faith in practice results.

A bunch of reasons: except for the #22 car, all their teams are new.
Except for Bill Davis, none of their team owners has any experience
with a Cup level team. None of their drivers are top-level drivers
with a history of debugging poor handling cars(*). They have a new
engine (the Cup engine is not the same as the CTS engine). They are
trying to figure out the aero for two bodies (CoT and old-style) at
the same time.

Of all that, I suspect the newness of the teams is the biggest
stumbling block, especially since there seem to be personality
conflicts already appearing in some of them. Cup racing really
is a team sport, and if the whole crew doesn't come together,
even Hendrick chassis & engines wouldn't solve it.

(* Jarrett should be, but it doesn't seem to be happening)
