MIS officials and NASCAR are considering on a plan to prevent
reoccurrence of fan debris being thrown onto the track surface during
and after the upcoming Sprint Cup event. Speedway officials declined
comment on exactly what measures would be used but, did indicate a
variety of options are under consideration. Asked to clarify
"variety", MIS spokesperson replied everything from banning personal
coolers, personal beverages, backpacks, ending beverage sales at half
race, to reviewing license requirements for on premises beer sales and
delivery in the fan seating area.

well I suppose when you have 150k seats you don't care if you only fill
100k, because that's what's going to happen if they do

Why, no other sporting event allows you to bring stuff in.

MIS already has a legislated exemption which allows venues with seating
over 100k to both sell and allow customers to bring in their own alcohol.
Doesn't sound like a ploy to force fans to purchase their over priced
beverages.

Sounds like the fans are forcing fans to purchase over priced beverages.
Suppose they gotta do what they gotta do.

Oh and the bill that allowed this was written specifically with MIS in mind
as there is no other venue in the state that meets this criteria.

i dont see what the problem is, if the tossing is
done after the race has ended. na$crap should
encourage this kind of fan involvement.

And you don't see a problem with a fan getting killed or seriously
injured from being hit in the head with a full can of beer?

A friend of mine had to have his face reconstructed and has a metal
plate in his head from being hit by a baseball at a Braves gave.
And this has something to do with beer cans at races?

When at a ballgame KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE BALL! If you are not willing
to do that then don't go.

The bill was written specifically with MIS in mind. It may have been an
even higher seating capacity but come to think of it....it may have only
been 80k. Thing is; UM doesn't and didn't allow fans to bring their own
alcohol in. MIS was on the verge of banning fans from bringing their own in
or discontinuing their own sales. Since the latter wasn't going to happen
and fans (as well as MIS) complained, the then existing law was modified to
allow both. But you are correct, UM would have qualified seating wise and I
kind of expected it to be pointed out once I hit send.

Hmmm baseball struck by a bat weilded by a major league player....compared
to a beer can lobbed onto the track by drunken Earnhardt fan who can barely
stand up. Sure he can cause an injury but the thrower is more likely going
to be the one needing reconstructive surgery.

Depends on whether that Earnhardt fan is throwing left handed or right...

I wouldn't discount a full beer can. Fast versus super fast ... still can hit pretty hard. I've gotten clocked in the head by baseballs too, sometimes I could shake it off, other times I was carried off.

I'm pretty sure I could do some major damage to someones face and or
head with a full beer, especially a child, but that's just me.

Other Doug, hurl a full beer into the side of your car and
see what kind of damage it does.

The bottom line is, why is anyone defending these idiots that are
throwing things?
