My Pocono Race report -
08-10-2009
, 11:30 AM
Last week I went to the Pocono Race. It rained
hard all Saturday night and Sunday morning.
I didn't think the race was going to happen,
but they wouldn't call it, so we left for the
track at 1:30 pm. My brother's cabin is only
15 minutes away, there was little traffic at
that point, so, it was no problem. We did miss
the flyover (damn it!).
When we got there the sun was out, but when
I saw the track I knew they were going to call
it. There was a lake at the entrance into pit
road and both turns 1 and 3 had water seeping
through the track. Because there are no lights,
they had to start the race by 4:00 pm. It wasn't
going to happen but they kept us all hanging.
We walked through the trailers and bought some
stuff, the usual.
Monday:
Beautiful day and I was glad they called it on
Sunday. We didn't bother trying to tail-gate
because the parking fields were muddy.
We seats were at row 40 about 30 yard away
from the start/finish line. Being a JJ fan
this was great because the 48's pit stall
was directly across from me.
We had a small blind spot between turns 2 and 3
because of a building and a sign; otherwise, I
was very happy with the seats and our view.
Once again, the scanner came in handy. the 48
had engine problems and the scanner-chatter was
awesome. My son, who is a TS fan, used the
sprint fanview scanner and he loved it.
Food was okay, beer selection was limited, plenty
of bathrooms, not a whole lot of merchandise trailers
and display tents, but, all-in-all, a very good
experience.
