They may have been looking at average over 10 laps, or something
like that. Fastest lap in practice is rarely useful for predicting
how a driver will run in the race, but looking at how a car is
doing after it gets a few laps on the tires can be instructive.

C'mon, you know that's not the case, John.

btw, avg speeds:
1 Martin
2 Montoya
3 Speed
4 Johnson
5 Bliss

also, note that they all only ran a handful of laps compared to everyone
else, helping to keep their avg on the high side, oh yeah, HH was only a
couple hours before quals too, considering their avgs are about 2
seconds quicker than everyone else, I'd say they concentrated on quals
during HH

Why do you think they didn't credit Montoya then?

I have no clue, actually, since I never look at n.com and thus
have no idea how they usually report on practice.

In years past I used to look at Jayski for practice numbers,
but this year I just haven't been interested enough to.

well, no matter, I see that they've deleted and/or changed the article
reference already, the link points to another newer article

The title was: With no pressure on him, Johnson paces HH

and then down in the article it said, Johnson was fastest in HH, only
bested by the lap of Montoya, lol
