Default NASCAR streak comes to an end. - 06-17-2009 , 08:00 PM

http://sportsmediawatch.blogspot.com/2009/06/nascar-streak-comes-to-end.html

NASCAR's ratings slide has come to an end.

The LifeLock 400 drew a 3.3 U.S. rating and 5.1 million viewers on TNT
Sunday, flat compared to last year's race. This marks the first time
all season that a NASCAR race has not had a decline in ratings or
viewership.

The race finished in a tie as the fifth-highest rated program of the
week on cable.

Through two races, TNT is averaging a 3.4 U.S. rating and 5.3 million
viewers, down 6% and 5%, respectively, from a 3.6 and 5.6 million
through two races in '08.

Auto racing is a politically and environmentally incorrect dying sport.
Sooner or later everyone is going to understand that.

There are better ways for cell phone and wireless companies to spend their
dollars. The RV industry is dying and the DIY industry is dying. Tobacco
ads are outlawed and that pretty much only leaves booze. And even the booze
companies are merging.

Either the cost of running a season is going to get a whole lot cheaper or a
whole lot more racing series are going to bite the dust.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the news has been staring everyone
in the face for a long time.

I take it that you are a Red Wings fan. I would like to break the tie!
Great series, and we were lucky to beat the Wings at home. Very
excited about that.
