They just made the announcement, this could be huge for Stockcar
racing in Canada! They only have about 12 races a year now but that

willing to race twice a week(weather issues). That would be possible
in some situations. Nascar is viewed in Canada as the top level of
racing and to be associated with the Nascar name is going to bring in a
LOT of sponsors. We could be seeing Canadian drivers in Cup in a few
years! What do you Amercans think of Nascar's moves into Canada? Good
thing, Bad thing, Neutral, Trivial? Should Canada get more Busch Series
races?

I know for a fact that the current "Cayuga Speedway" is under
construction and the owners are making it "Nascar ready". I also know
that Nascar officials have visited the track as recently as Sept 3rd
weekend. Previously they we talking trucks during their visit, but the
new owners with money in hand are hoping for Busch at the least.

Wow thats a nice looking facility and if the expansion takes place a
Busch race would seem to be a given. I could see a situation where they
could have a Nascar Canada race on Saturday and a Busch race on Sunday
similar to the Busch/Cup setup. Jayski is reporting that the expansion
will take the track to 60,000 fans! They'd sell every ticket in minutes.
I doubt they'd ever get a cup race though, it would mean adding another
race and they already race almost ever weekend, although I suppose they
could add another week to schedule but I believe it's already the longest
season of any pro sport.

Chill None40! I'm sure if i were a Canuck i'd be overjoyed too with
NA$CAr finally recognizing there is racing in Canada.
But y'all way up North gotta take it easy. Cup will get there,
Busch most likely will be there next year, but y'all need to be satisfied
for the short term that there will be good racin in Canada in '07.
Go to as many races as u can, even if it means hitchin up the dogsled, eh?

Hmmm...where was that race where Kurt first did his snow angel bit?

the good thing about it is that Kenseth, Stewart, Schrader and a few
others have raced at Cayuga.. with any luck they will remember it and
endorse it
I would be more than happy , I would be overjoyed to see Busch or
Craftsman make a stop, but even if not having Nascars involvement can
only better tha racing in the long run, better corporate sponsors,
better advertising.ect... I personally am thrilled and hope this
becomes huge, hope Cayuga is on the radar because I live 5 minutes
away... and once things get going will be on the fire-rescue team for
the speedway... I'm pumped.

That was a great race, fun to attend. Biggest race on the CASCAR schedule
(on attendance) that year.

Benson and Stewart did some laps in cars from other series, Kenseth won the
night, Stewart got in multiple incidents -- Ted Musgrave was a strong 3rd in
the feature.

But let me tell you, 60,000 seats on that dinky little oval would have the
grandstands looking like a mini-Bristol. Not to mention needing to buy out
some farmers to park the cars somewhere. Hotels, probably 45 minute drive
to the nearest major center to find some beds, this is farm country,
population of nearby towns is like 5k to 15k.

Geez I commute 45-60 minutes to work every day! But seriously you'd probably
take a bus to and from the track and not drive.

I agree with much of what you said. Actually, there are 3 good size
hotels in Simcoe, atleast one in Port dover and Hamilton is about 30
mins away with a decebt size hotel in Mt. Hope. Not nearly enough to
accomadate 60,000 people, (minus campers) but if this gets as big as
they hope, especially with the growth in Caledonia, maybe a new hotel
isn't out of the question? As for the property for parking, believe me
there is quite a bit of dead land in that area that the owners would be
more than happy to sell, or lease for the right price. I would expect
to see the big bricj house in front to be demolished in short order to
make that front a great spot for some parking, or track expansion. The
money they are planning to put into the track, I would think they have
thought about parking... or they are idiots... I'm still waiting for
this track to be built, it alsmost seems to good to be true, so I'll
believe it when I see it.

Actually the timing is right for farmland since the Tobacco buyout was this
year. Previously ownership at that track has had problems with the
neighbors and zoning, buying them out would be a great solution.

The track has been there a long time, in fact Dale Earhardt ran there in
NASCAR races in the 70's. The Drag strip at the same facility has a long
history too and hosts the IHRA.

Simcoe does have a new hotel, but none of the them are all that big and
they're full enough as it is for other area tourism. But if they establish
some sort of directory or co-operative you probably can find enough rooms
all together with all the little towns and hamlets around, and if you throw
Bantford and Hamilton in you'd be ok.

Now comes the fun of cramming 60,000 people down that little road to the
track, but heck, if we can fit 50,000 people in Port Dover (pop 4000) on
Friday the 13th, that should be no problem, lol.

Not sure if the tobbaco buyout has any bearing because there is none
grown in the area of the track (don't think there is any grown in
Haldimand)and this might be what council needs to have that bypass
around Hagersville put into high gear from the province, and you know it
will run east of Hagersville there is now way in hell it will end up
going through the reserve....but you have a pretty damn good knowledge
of my area, where you from?

I'm in Norfolok, and a Hagersville bypass would suit me just fine :-) As
long as they put a Tim Horton's on it somewhere. Or else on the junction of
Hwy6 and Argyle south of Caledonia, if the natives don't own that spot too.

One F13 I was coming home from TO, the stop and go lineup of bikes from the
southernmost light in Hagersville stretched almost all the way to Jarvis.
A bypass would be very useful. Not sure how the economy of Hagersville
would appreciate that, mind you. But it would turn that development east of
Dover into a potential bedroom community for the golden horseshoe.

I was at that Canada Day Shootout a few years back, shook hands with TS, JB,
MK that day, had pit passes. Never did see Shrader though, up close.

You're in Haldimand I take it?

I'm from Hagersville, on the fire dept here, and apparently a team of us
are doing the track protection out at the Speedway, so I am hoping these
plans end up being sincere, and not just smoke and water...
