Default NASCAR tells drivers to shut up and drive - 06-14-2008 , 11:27 AM

Unfuckingbelievable. And the pussy kiss-ass drivers that tried to
sugarcoat it make things worse. Real NASCAR fans can see through the bull
and know what's going on, trying to keep them in the dark and giving only
phony positive commentary will drive even more away. Wasn't that what
NASCAR was trying to avoid at the beginning of the season with their "Back
to... whatever" claims?

Fuck you, FRANCE! This pisses me off more than a thousand negative
comments from drivers. The piece of shit car drove me away, and now this
final nail in the coffin marks my permanent departure. I won't even follow
this garbage in the media anymore. NASCAR, you died and no longer exist
AFAIC!

So which part of the article got you so pissed off at France?
What did they do?
I don't even think they race stock cars there.

The GT1 and GT2 classes are fairly close to stock (this weekend
is the 24 Hours of Le Mans).

I hear people say N drivers are the best in the world, I've never put
much into those comments to begin with. But lets just say for a
minute they are, they should be able to handle the tracks and varied
conditions at different tracks.

Can you say union. I have heard rumor about driver unions, this may
be the start to that movement again.

I think the drivers are becoming a little to pussy, in some cases.

Tracks are not going to be perfect, that's what makes it racin. I
don't feel sorry for any drivers who think their car sucks or the
tracks are rough or suck also.

On the other hand, I think Mike Helton and NASCAR have their arms too
far up the butts of the teams and owners. I think NASCAR should back
off and let teams build cars to race, actually race. To much control
is not good for fan viewing and the sport.

Just my 2 cents, probably not worth a penny to begin with..

They've been there, done that, and it failed.

Do a search for "Nascar" "Professional Drivers Association"

Hey Mike - screw Helton and the whole gang - good to see you here again...
even if only for a moment.

Where in the hell does that come from? Where do you "hear rumour about
driver unions" from? The boys at the bar?

Completely agree.

Anyone can drive an easy track, and a perfect car...

I'll take their job, when it becomes too unbearable for them...

Hey Mike - screw Helton and the whole gang - good to see you here

Thanks, Mike. To be honest, I miss you folks a bit also. ;-) Haven't
watched a single race this year and only catch the occasional highlight.
Still like to read N articles on my phone when I'm outside catching a
smoke, but France has to try and mess that up also by telling drivers to
stop complaining. Do they complain too much? Perhaps for some, but I like
to read their true feelings. They may come off as inappreciative sometimes
(an may in fact be), but at least they're being honest about the current
situation and giving a clearer picture of the sport many follow so
closely. Making them afraid to say anything negative gives me even less
reason to follow the sport at all, and that's my vent. Since I'm in
complete agreement with them as far as the car & many tires sucking, I
like to keep hearing them complain. It gives me some small hope that
NASCAR may eventually listen and make the appropriate changes. I still say
lose the front splitter (and let them go back to using more downforce
which they need to equalize what's going on in the rear), and soften the
tires even if it means a couple more blowouts. Until these adjustments are
made, I ain't watchin' and it's nice to know the drivers, crew chiefs,
etc. are as unhappy about it as I am. Plus, it galls me when NASCAR abuses
its power, and telling drivers to shut up and drive just pisses me off.
;-)

Two things strike me as funny about that episode.

One is that Helton apparently didn't get the early season memo
from Brian France that NASCAR was going to "ease off and let the
drivers show some personality". Not that we all haven't thought
for years that France was more a figurehead that everyone bows
to because he's boss's son (so to speak) and then ignores while
they get on with business.

The other is that Helton can be so clueless as to think that
we, the fans, don't recognize that the drivers complain about
everything all the time (look at all the bitching about Earnhardt
and the pace car), and discount their words accordingly. Today
they're unhappy because the car is hot, tomorrow they're unhappy
because the tire is hard, next week they're unhappy because the
track is sandy, week after that because the pace car is blue...
it'll always be something and we can judge their words based
on that.

John
