Default New rule starting this weekend - 07-31-2009 , 10:08 AM

There will be competition cautions every X amount of laps, to be
determined by the length of the race and fuel mileage window of each
individual track.

The field will be frozen, cars will pit and restart as they were running
when the caution flew. Teams will be allowed 30 seconds to complete
their stop and resume their position. More than 30 seconds and they are
required to start at the rear of the pack for the restart.

Competition caution flies
Go to commercial
1 lap for the pace car to collect the field
1 lap to determine positions
1 more lap to complete round of commercials
Back from commercial as pits open
Back to commercials once all stops are completed
3 laps to ensure car positions and complete commercials
Back from commercial as the green flies again
(caution laps will be doubled on all tracks less 1.5 miles)

This will eliminate green flag commercial breaks, phantom debris
cautions, and speed limit violations on pit road.

Although, this will still allow armchair racers to find shit to bitch
about and claim that N fixes the races.

Maybe they could drop the announcers altogether and just have race
control on the broadcast. They should probably look into televising the
inspection process too.

"Allow" ??? I'd suggest, "encourage".

Oh well, .......... at least 'affecting the outcome' is now public domain.
No more mystery speeding tickets for Juan. Now they just have to hold him in
the pits for that 'loose lug nut', exceed the 30 seconds, ... and voila -
"to the rear of the field".

This racing series is becoming (has become) legislated, corporately doped
and events excessively lengthened to the point of intolerance.

Wow!

I never thought I'd see the day.

I started recommending this over 10 years ago. The NASCAR guys rubbed
elbows with back then told me to shut up because it would only stifle
my chances of career growth at the track and it would "never happen
anyway".

Maybe they will give me my job back now? 8^)

Just determine finishing order based on the amount of money spent by a
particular sponsor.

Because it was obvious what they were doing and unfair to hide it
under the cloak of secrecy.

Everyone behind the fence knew they were "competition cautions", but
we were not allowed to admit it to John Q Public.

IMHO if it was so important to NASCAR then they should have built it
into the rules way back then.

I'm glad they have finally seen the light.
