Hmmm, I don't recall. I know when the Busch guys were using 305
engines there were Buicks, but I don't know about the V6.

They were Buicks.
That was part of the problem. They were the better motor,
but required more expensive parts.

Ah, the Jeep engine.

Yes, I can see how that would be more expensive - all the
other racing applications of that engine used it pretty much
in stock displacement, and often as not turbocharged, so
anything needed for NASCAR would be unique.

The Chevy engine was purposefully designed to share as many
parts as possible with the small-block V8 (pistons, rods,
valves, bearings, etc), so there'd have been a lot more
"debugged and paid for" parts available for it.
