About Kurt Busch totally dominating last weeks race. He did what he had to
do to get himself back in the chase.

Great job Kurt!

Yeah, great. Too bad it was such a snoozefest. That's why there
aren't any comments - plus, Robby Gordon has stolen the limelight. ;-)

He dominated because he had to get himself back in the chase? You couldn't
have possibly meant that.
I am curious tho,......what's your point?
Kurt had a very good car.....ok.
Kurt's pit crew made few mistakes on pit road.....ok.
Only about five other cars ran well at Pocono last week.
It was an impressive showing, but Kurt's dominance is hardly akin to the
second coming of Christ.

Kurt had an amazing car, there is no disputing that. IMO the story of the
race was Jr. running badly all day and even spinning. Then the crew changes
the shock and he turns into superman, and eventually coming in 2nd, that was
an amazing run for Jr....

Change Kurt with Jr.

Would the story of the race be Kurt taking 2nd? Imagine if Jr. won and no
one here mentioned it, and instead talked ad-naseum about Robby spinning and
Kurt making a great run to take second.

Point is Kurt was outstanding and deserves some credit for a great race.

Good point, if Jr. would have won time would have stood still. Kurt drove an
amazing race, and was un-touchable. I just think Jr's comeback was a feat in
itself.

Yes, Kurt did have an exceptional race, and an exceptionally
dominating performance. And I think that the most important point of
his dominating performance was the fact that he displaced NASCAR's
"Most Popular Driver", (though not my "Most Popular Driver") from 12th
place in the points, and therefore, if he maintain's that 12th place,
Kurt will be in the chase and not the MPD! And for that reason alone,
I'm cheering for Kurt!

Kurt had a great race, no doubt about it. I don't personally know
anybody who's claimed he didn't deserve that win. Ended a 51-race
winless streak, won in a Dodge (my manufacturer of choice in Cup, at
least until Nissan can find a way in), just dominated the race track.

You're of the opinion he's not getting the press he deserves though,
and this is where I have to disagree with you a bit. I think the press
he's getting for this weekend is exactly what you'd expect for the
circumstances at hand.

First, it's Pocono. I don't really see this as a fan favorite. It's
one of the longest tracks in the series, with one of the longest races
in the series. For having a one-of-a-kind layout, it's phenomenally
boring. The overwhelming impression I get of it from the TV coverage
(and that's the most I will *ever* get for Pocono... I hate the state
of Pennsylvania with a passion. Not Pennsylvanians, mind you, just the
physical state itself) is that it's a conga-line with the occasional
three-wide moment. Outside of the suspense and timing controvery of
the rain-shortened ending of Pocono1 this year, I wouldn't expect much
in the way of buzz from *any* victory at the track.

Second, it was a race utterly lacking in excitement. You know the race
is bad when a single car spin and resulting shock change was the big
story of the race. Kurt had the same kind of win that Ryan Newman
should have had earlier this year... he was just untouchable. While
I'm sure Kurt and Penske were happy about that, it's just not worth a
lot of press. You can only write so much about that kind of
performance. There just aren't a lot of angles to take here. You can
talk about how badly Kurt whipped the field, or about how badly Kurt
whipped the field. Perfect days make poor stories.

Third, let's be honest. It's Kurt Busch. I apologize if you're a big
Kurt fan, but this is the truth. He's not a well-liked driver. He's
not a liked driver. In all seriousness, for most people he's a barely-
tolerated driver. When Montoya spun Kurt at Sonoma, I'm betting the
ratio of cheers to boos was overwhelmingly in Montoya's favor. In
fairness to Kurt, he looks like he's trying to get back in everyone's
good graces, but I think that's going to be futile until his brother
comes around as well. Like it or not, fair or not, they're direct
relations with similar personalities, and that means that some of the
behavior of and goodwill (or lack thereof) towards Kyle is going to
get assigned to Kurt as well.

Those, friend, are the reasons that Kurt isn't getting swarms of
congratulatory posts. That's why he's not whipping the media into a
frenzy. The track, the circumstances of the day, and who he is just
don't have the ability to do that right now.

He drove a hell of a race through, and that's one more win in his
book. And that's what goes in the record books.

-Steven
