Default N employs 27K - 05-21-2007 , 01:57 PM

I had no idea NA$CAr employed this many people!
Maybe the author meant including independent contractors?

NASCAR is everywhere this week -- and it might be a little puzzling for those
newer to town who don't realize what a big deal it is here. Here are some basics
to know so you can fit in:
.. NASCAR itself employs 27,000 people in North Carolina and generates
$5.9 billion in economic impact annually.
Got a question? 704-358-5058 or Ldyer (AT) charlotteobserver (DOT) com

It is no wonder that everyone else thinks that hillbillies are ignorant.
Even the hillbilly journalists are dumber than a box of rocks. NASCAR does
not employ 27,000 hillbillies in North Carolina or in the entire country.

NASCAR is a sanctioning body that operates out of 15 Park Place Ormond
Beach,FL. I seriously doubt that NASCAR will issue more than 3000 W-2 forms
for 2007. There may well be 27,000 related jobs or 270,00 related jobs that
that is not the point. I could pay thirty bucks for the real answer from
D&B but I do not feel to need to do that to prove that hillbillies are the
dumbest and most ignorant people in this country.

I have a problem with that number if they implied that "NASCAR" the
company employs that many people here...Now if they're talking NASCAR
and each of the teams, and each of the teams' suppliers? That I could
see.

I'm just waiting for some idiot to chime in and say "But wait! NASCAR
is HQ'd in Florida..." there's usually at least one that does it...tho
I manage to keep him/it KF'd pretty good of late...He'll never figure
out that the Frances and the Company ARE HQ'd down there, and it's for
nothing more than the tax breaks FL offers to its companies and more
importantly, its residents (ie: no personal income tax)...Things NC
can't say. The Dems-In-Charge here tax the hell out of us on our
income...when they're not out tearing up race cars at LMS that is
(Thankfully Soon to Be Outgoing Gov. Easley, Line 1).

The "heart" of NASCAR lies within a small perimeter of miles from
Charlotte - with few exceptions anymore. Even NHRA teams have started
to influx to the area due to the talent and parts supply pools. I even
hear old PEI is looking at moving away from the Greater Greensboro
Area (Randleman/Level Cross/Ashboro) and down toward Mooresville so
they can be closer in to the sport's center as well. That says a lot
given their history in that area...
