Do you remember when the US was wealthy and China was poor? Do you wonder what happened? |
|
Let me lay this out for you. From about 1776 until 1976 people in the US took raw materials and fashioned them into useful products. As time went on we became the leaders in making everything from steel to cars. Then for some strange reason that is beyond me we decided that it would be better to outsource manufacturing and put everybody in some sort of service job. A factory or plant or mill or foundry is something that takes in raw materials and creates wealth and jobs as well as products. They are real useful things to have around. They are the engines that create a big portion of the wealth of a society. But they can be noisy and dirty and stinky and who wants to see plumes of smoke anyhow? Apparently the Chinese want to see plumes of smoke. They see the value in those plumes of smoke that we rejected from our shores. We still have Caterpillar and John Deere and GE and Boeing and a few defense contractors left. We only threw away about 85% of our manufacturing. |
