Nice to know that NASCAR has the power to take away a drivers freedom
of speech, even if he isn't at the racetrack! No wonder Mikey is such
an ass sucker on INC.

The remarks infuriated image-conscious NASCAR officials, who called
Stewart in to address the issue at 6 a.m. Friday, the hour the garage
opened. "It's a little tender for me to sit down right now," Stewart
quipped.

But it wasn't a joke to NASCAR, which was expected to announce
penalties later Friday. Series officials watched from the back of the
media center as a humbled Stewart made his comments, which contrasted
starkly with his remarks Tuesday.

The best way to get Stewart to open up without rebuke is to call a
Congressional hearing.

A $10,000 penalty, and probation until the end of the season for not
showing up for the post race news conference.

Yeah, right! LOL

I guess we don't live in the US anymore........nothing like putting a gun to
someone's head to get the response the is required. FU NASCAR!

Did you hear the guy SPEED just talked to?

"The fine was NOT for what he said"...But we were very
disappointed...people worked hard to make the sport legitimate...but
he's been fined and we hope it won't happen again.

It sounded like he was fined for what he said so he won't say it
again.

Well this one opens up a whole new set of potential problems for
Nascar. By coming down so hard on Tony they did one thing they didn't
expect. They gave credence to the very thing that are trying to get
away from. The questions around the intergity of the competition have
been around for a while. They started it themselves when they made
the switch from the sport of auto racing to the entertainment
business. At first people just thought it without saying much. Now
people openly talk about it. To make matters worse they really don't
have coverage. They have media partners. They try to control through
the contracts and people in the booth what is said about them.

Now if they want to control Tony's off track life, Nascar might be
really stepping into another real problem. Tony isn't their employee,
and likely isn't an employee of Joe Gibbs racing. Most drivers are
considered independent contractors, and there are very strict
guidelines and tests which must be met to be a contractor. If you
aren't a contractor, you are an employee. Its the same with the
teams. If one is ruled an employee the tax man usually isn't far
behind. Think no one will say nothing. Guess again. The independent
contractor status is already going to be coming up in the ATT Cingular
case soon enough.

The last thing is that they forgot something along the way. That kind
of passion and conflict is what built Nascar. In the old days it was
scoring errors, but there has always been something. From cheaters
that got away with it, to DE blasting restrictor plate racing, someone
has always blasted Nascar.

The reaction is also likely more pronounced because of the ratings
drop which has to have them far more worried than they are admiting.
Seems a lot of the recent changes aren't sitting well with the old
timers. Cutting grass seems now more important than watching a COT
race. The chase and a host of other nonsense, like yanking the labor
day race at Darlington have given old timers like me reason to do
something else on weekends. They are afraid. They are very afraid.

Especially since he publicly apologized for his comments and acknowledged
(publicly) the integrity of the officials who bit his ass. Never apologized
for missing post race interviews though.

So Tony really is a coward. A real man would have stood his ground, came
out with something like; "...after discussing the matter with NASCAR
officials it is apparent that there is always debris on the track so the
cautions are a judgment call and therefore indisputable. Soooooooorrrreeeee
NASCAR...." (using that insincere sarcastic tone of voice that makes you
want to slap your kids right upside the head).

Or maybe he could have come out sticking to his guns pointing out that
NASCAR claims to be a patriotic American institution but fails to
acknowledge basic freedoms afforded by the constitution. Then threw the
ball back in their court. Confront 'em publicly and take his beatin' like a
man.

Ever had a sit down with your big boss for saying negative things
about him/her or the company?

I have 2 or 3 times in my life, and if you value your job, trust me,
what comes out of your mouth WILL change, even if it is just an act.

Funny thing is, you have a LOT of other employees coming up to you
afterwards saying that they agree with you. LOL

This is not anything new. Stewart is a pussy who would quit acting like a 2
year old if one of the drivers would take him out behind the motorhomes. I
like how he doesn't shave on race weekends to try and show he's a real man.

Shows how much you know about TS. He says he doesn't like to shave and
only does so when it becomes so itchy that he can't sleep.

So you're saying along with being a pussy, he's also a 'guy' who likes to look like a drunken bum that has just crawled out of a dumpster? Thanks for clearing that up.
