Default Penalties For Stewart? - 04-27-2007 , 01:50 PM

Nice to know that NASCAR has the power to take away a drivers freedom
of speech, even if he isn't at the racetrack! No wonder Mikey is such
an ass sucker on INC.
.............................
The remarks infuriated image-conscious NASCAR officials, who called
Stewart in to address the issue at 6 a.m. Friday, the hour the garage
opened. "It's a little tender for me to sit down right now," Stewart
quipped.

But it wasn't a joke to NASCAR, which was expected to announce
penalties later Friday. Series officials watched from the back of the
media center as a humbled Stewart made his comments, which contrasted
starkly with his remarks Tuesday.

The best way to get Stewart to open up without rebuke is to call a
Congressional hearing.
A $10,000 penalty, and probation until the end of the season for not
showing up for the post race news conference.

Yeah, right! LOL

Nancy can't post at the moment and she asked that I add this link on the same
topic:

http://msn.foxsports.com/nascar/story/6746670

My Recommendation:

Since Tony Stewart's comments on his Sirius show this week have caused such a
furor, I think NASCAR could accomplish a lot to de-fuse the whole thing, if they
would arrange to make the Tower frequency available on NASCAR.com's Track Pass so
interested fans could see and hear themselves what has actually happened.

FOX should have the producer monitor debris caution radio traffic and have a
camera follow the unit's action to retrieve the debris. This could be taped to be
shown later if other, more important, race activity were in progress, i.e., pit
stops, replays, etc.

Did you hear the guy SPEED just talked to?

"The fine was NOT for what he said"...But we were very
disappointed...people worked hard to make the sport legitimate...but
he's been fined and we hope it won't happen again.

It sounded like he was fined for what he said so he won't say it
again.

That was Jim Hunter, who also said that they've never penalized a
driver for missing a post race news conference, until now.

When asked if they *could* have penalized TS for his comments, he said
"yes".

Jim Hunter is talking out of his ass.

He was fined for his comments, PERIOD!

Do they (NASCAR) think we are a bunch of idiots?????

But TS said the following, so all is well. lol

"They assured me that the debris cautions are for things that are out
there," Stewart said. "They say that there are things that are out
there and to be honest, the group that I spoke with this morning is a
group of peers that I trust. If they tell me stuff is out there, I
believe them."

He looked like a programed robot when he gave that interview on Speed
earlier.

The answer to that question is Yes. NASCAR is confident that most fans are
so enamored by them that anything they say will be accepted. Not unlike the
techniques of politicians. No matter, bit by bit, NASCAR is driving fans
like myself out to our yards where we can get something done on a Sunday
afternoon. I don't think it bothers them one bit. They're counting on the
flow - as fans get fed up with them, new fans will pour in to replace those
who walk away.

It doesn't bother me one bit to record the race and watch it later, FFing
through pre-race, commercials, caution flags, and long sequences about
popular drivers

But there is nothing to draw new fans. Nascar needs a good rivalry to stir
up new interest, but there hasn't been a good rivalry since DE died.

IMO, the best possible rivalry would be Junior vs. JPM. Just the disparity
in fan bases would fuel a good rivalry, assuming Junior & Montoya would play
along.
