Default Petty to become TNT anaylst - 05-04-2007 , 08:54 AM

Kyle Petty starts his gig next month for 5 races as TNT race analyst. This is
a win-win for everyone. Kyle is a great guy but he just didn't inherit his
daddy's racing gene. He's a danger to himself and everyone else on the track
when he throttles up. With his background and knowledge of racing he should be
a great TV analyst. Along with Wally he can try and offset the idiot
ramblings of Weber who will also unfortunately be back in the booth.

i don't think he is a danger to anyone...for the most part he has a
ton of bad luck...but there are alot of better drivers out there than
him....i wonder if this is a step on his way out...see how these 5
races go & then maybe next year do more.?...i think he would be great
for the speed channel...he knows his racin' but just can't do it on
the track...

I've always said Kyle would be great in the booth. He's done a few Busch
races behind the mike and he did an outstanding job.

As far as him being a danger on the track, That's just ridiculous & stupid.
He's run almost 800 races and hasn't killed or injured anyone that I know
of. He just isn't terribly talented.

Yes. He is well spoken and I don't ever recall him coming across as an
idiot (as some others in the booth have).

Well, he HAS killed less than his father; but that was at a drag strip.

You have to kill or maim someone before you are a dangerous driver? Most
people who aren't stupid would think that causing wrecks every week you're on
the track might qualify.

I expect he will do a great job.

The few times I have watched when he did analysis, his breakdown was
concise as well as thorough. A hard combination to master.

Ex anything, whether it is auto racers, tennis stars, football
players, whatever, that work the booth, have a difficult time
understanding it is no longer about them. It is about them bringing
their expertise to the analysis of others performance.

I believe he will make an easy transition

I wish him well.

Well, going back to the early 90's, KP had a Hot Streak going at Rockingham,
Martinsville and occasionally RIR (Richmond).

That when he was with one of the big money teams back then, Felix Sabates,
and the Number 42 Mello Yello Pontiac. I think it's great he's
commentating, a looking forward to it personally being a KP fan!

Good luck Kyle-

Kyle back in his younger days was one to deal with on race day. He
was a winner. Was he as good as Richard? No but how many are?
Saying he doesn't have the talent, is to ignore his success in years
gone by. Did he hang on too long? Maybe, but there are likely lots
of reasons for that too.

One thing is for sure. Richard was just too nice to be effective in
the booth. Telling the truth means you have to say things you know
some people won't like. Kyle isn't new in the booth. He has a way of
being tactful, to the point and informative, and occasionally being
just naturally funny without forcing it, all while also just being
Kyle Petty. If he reminds me of anyone else in the booth, it would
have to be Neil Bonnett. Neil was one of the best ever.

I remember Kyle ruled the Rock for a few races there. They obviously
hit on something sweet in the setup, and 1 race I'm pretty sure he
lapped the entire field.

Btw...who has caused more wrecks this year....KP or TS?

I remember Kyle a few years ago at the 400-miler at Dayona verbally
slapping his engine builders. Most of their engines hadn't made the race
and Kyle said they were 'jacking off' at the track. Hilarious.
