How now? Petty drove for Holman-Moody....

Come on John, I'm pretty sure the majority of NASCAR fans
(especially one that is 18yrs old) associate RP with two things,
Dodge and STP.

?????
He'd been running Pontiacs since '82.

yeah, but that was based on economics. richard and the other pettys
made themselves famous, and yes, rich, racing dodge and those hemis -
at least until NASCAR banned the historic hemis, protecting the other
brands!
I was addressing the "(especially one that is 18yrs old)" part.

this also means that roush's 5th team (ie: mcmurray and the 26) has no
where to go...

That hasn't really been news for a while - there's been a bunch
of hints that McMurray isn't part of Roush plans any more. It
does make you wonder what the point is of putting Darnell into
Labonte's seat, tho.

John

NO! Richard NEVER drove for Holman-Moody. His Fords in 1969 were
Petty Enterprises machines!

All the Fords of that era came from Holman-Moody, just like all
the Fords of today come from Roush. The fact that it said
"Petty Enterprises" as car owner on the entry form doesn't
make it a Petty built car.

(plus, there's team photos around with Pearson, Petty, Yarbrough,
Allison, etc showing that they were all considered "Holman-Moody"
drivers).

Here's a real trivia question for you - what other brand of car
did Petty drive in the 1969 season?

John

Yer prolly referring to Mercury (4 races)...or Plymouth (twice)...or Dodge
(22) and the Fords (26).

Yep, that makes 54 races that year, two of 'em actually in '68. Eight races
in the month of July, 7 in June and 6 in both April and Sept.

While the chassis/frame for his first Ford came from H-M, the rest were made
in Level Cross.

They were all considered what they were: Ford drivers. Even if all of
Richard's Fords
had been built by H-M, you can't say he "drove for Holman-Moody" any more
than you could
say all the Ford drivers of today "drive for Roush". Driving a Roush built
car, is not the same
as driving for him.

His '68 Road Runner.
