Default pit road screw ups...... - 09-15-2003 , 08:03 AM

why is it that when a driver pulls a bone head move like the #24 did
yesterday there is no penalty, but when a driver gets one tire even an inch
outta his pit stall there is the penalty.
I know it's NA$CAR, but it makes no friggin' sense. i'm not just posting
this 'cause i despise the #24 and i wish he would have been called to the
B.R.T., put a 3 laps down and burned at the stake, fined $1Mil. and loss of
1500 points, but it has happened a couple times this year and nada happens.

peace...

mike...........

Incidents happen every race on pit road. This one was had more potential
harm than most, however, still an incident. If everyone was penalized for
contact on pit road it would be impossible to police. I am not a 24 fan,
actually I wanted to see the 15 win. But, what happened was a mistake and
part of racing. For those that have been critical need go strap in and get
a better understanding of the intensity of the moment rather than be
armchair critics with the benefit of instant replay.

i understand, but it's nuts to police a tire on/over a line and not to
police a mess like yesterday under caution.

They would need to write a rule first and enforce it second. There have
been a number of messes on those mass dives into the pits this season.
Changing the rules about how a car is positioned in the pits would not
affect that very much as far as I can tell.

No it wouldn't. There is an official in every box. You just have to draw
the line on what constitutes a penalty. IMO, running another guys crew
three pit boxes from you're own is pretty darn clear cut.

They would need to write a rule.......

Why woud they need to write a rule? Its NASCAR..they ALWAYS make shit up
as they go to fit any situation that comes about

They seem to do that when something is intentional or getting out of
control. If they did that for mistakes there would be no drivers left to
race.

I totally agree. They have a penalty for spinning on pit road but this
wasn't a "spin." They make judgment calls all the time and penalize drivers
for rough driving on the track....there is no reason that they can't make a
judgment call to go with a rule concerning reckless/dangerous maneuvering on
pit road. Penalties could be flexible.

And if they don't there may be no pit crews left to service the dumbasses
cars!

I agree with you Mike... You know what my solutions is? Get rid of all
the
pit road rules. Who cares if a tire gets away. How can you RACE when you
have to drive 45 MPH? So what if Mikey took off with his gas can. If
there
wasn't a rule against it, his crew chief would've be commended for find a
way for mikey to carry an extra 22 gal of gas.
