Default the pit screw up.... - 10-20-2003 , 07:16 AM

why were cars allowed to pit even before the cars actually crossed the S/F
line behind the pace car? forget the rule that there is suppose to be one
lap to line the cars in position and figure out who is the lucky dog. the
caution came out and the cars went around the track then the pace car came
out and picked up the field and at that time the pits were opened (the
fastest i've ever seen the pits opened in a race after seeing the replays)
and then proceeded to cross the S/F line with the cars in the locked in
order. something is definately screwed up there. and the crew in the
booth runnin' their mouths about how something is wrong and when Helton
steps in and trys to explain it away, the 3 off them just say "Yes Sir,
You're right Sir." so i guess from now on it's a game, when will pit road
be opened. i say that there should be a light for pit road high enough to
see in position where everyone can see it in plenty of time. green for open,
red for closed. what happened yesterday ws a joke. 3 driver just don't
mess up like that, just like 3 crew cheifs, or 3 spotters. when the #8 and
the #29 made a move to the pits and didn't go (if you even call it a "move")
they had to know it wasn't the right time to pit and the next lap was
suppose to be the correct pitting lap.

What is everything a conspiracy and Nascar's fault.. The green flag was
flying before they got to the pitroad flagman. These are winston cup crews
and should not need a lap to get ready. The 4th place car came in... you
guys are acting like that is seconds or minutes behind the 1-3 place cars.
Bottom line, they weren't ready and missed it.

They saw the green flag, that is not in dispute. they should have pitted
and asked for forgiveness if necessary instead of asking for permission.
Green means go, those guys should know that.

i don't know what was talked about in the drivers meeting, but i have to say
NASCAR needs to make things a little more clear on this rule. this was the
5th race w/ these new rules in affect and yesterdy was the 1st time they
didn't do the one lap deal. so something is wrong, plus i've never seen car
allowed to pit in a CUP or Busch race before the pace car brought the field
around at least one time, before or after this new rule.

Because NASCAR makes the rules up each week, that is why.

Why? What's clearer than a green flag waving?

That's not what Hilton said. He said that at Kansas, Charlotte and
'dega, they didn't take an extra lap because theose are big tracks with
the pit entry on turn 4. At Martinsville, the shortest track with a pit
entry before teun 3, they needed the extra lap for the first couple of
times, but after a few tries they got the "figuring out the field" deal
improved, so they didn't need the extra lap.

So they waved the green flag, and 2 drivers got caught napping. The
third one has no excuse, especially after heading towards the clearly
open pits and then driving back out.

so again typical NASCAR change the rules in the middle of the game. OK i
GOT it.
but please do tell, when was the last time cars got to pit before the field
was brought around the track at least once by the pace car?

Listened to Junior's chatter all day (including the f-bomb tirade that this
error brought on, including the phrase 'I don't give a f**k if they hear
this...'') and he was ready. They just thought that the pits wouldn't open
until the second time by, like they had done the prior couple of cautions on
that particular day. Tony Sr came on the radio just as mad, poor old Tony Jr
was trying to keep them both calm. Junior, of course, was livid.

You didn't seem to have a problem with this when it came to the under the
yellow line pass that Jr. made though... why is that mike?

He was mad at himself...........
The green flag was flying at the end of pit road, he simply wasn't
watching to see if it would come out or not.....

Somehow or other either he or the crew find a way to shoot
themselves in the foot whenever they have a shot at winning........
