It is entirely possible (and maybe even likely) that Bobby Labonte and Tony Stewart will sit #2 and #3 on the list of active race winners in a couple of years. Weird. bp |

Do you mean thru attrition, with the likes of Rusty, Mark, Terry and some of the other older drivers retiring? That could very well happen. |

Here is the current top ten active drivers, sorted by wins. Numbers two through seven could possibly be all retired in a couple of years, and I expect Tony to score a few more wins than Burton, which is why it looks like the Gibbs boys could be $2 and #3 soon. 1) Gordon 67 2) Wallace 55 3) Elliott 44 4) Martin 34 5) Jarrett 31 6) Rudd 23 7) Labonte, T 22 8) Labonte, B 21 9) Stewart 17 9) Burton, J 17 bp |

I'd said that by the end 2007, maybe 2006 all five of those guys will be retire. Both Rusty and Mark have pretty much said they've signed their last contracts. Rudd also retired before the Wood Bros signed him. Eliiott will not run 3 or 4 races a year for long. And Terry could be forced out by Kyle Busch after 2005. Do not know about DJ. |
|
Who'll replace them? I can see Jon Wood in the #21, if he steps it up some. We know Carl Edwards is penciled in in the #6 for 2007. I'd say Kyle Busch in the #5 starting in 2006. Who would be in the #2? Early indications are that it ain't gonna be Billy Parker. |

Speaking of future drivers, is there any young stud driver that Ganassi or Hendrick has not signed yet? |

Just like no more Bobby, Neil, JD, Cale, Silver Fox, and the likes. Ah, those where the days. |
