I've noticed the 500 has gotten progressively later and later in the
day, and thanks to the fog and overcast skies (it was kinda amazing
looking at all that water on the camera and that dense fog and just
barely being able to see the cars), it finished under the lights.

Question is, you think NASCAR is chomping at the bits to make the
Daytona 500 a prime time affair yet?

I bet they got more views than they did for the Olympics. Maybe they should
put the Daytona 500 up against American Idol and see how they do.

In their heart of hearts, NASCAR and the networks would like EVERY race
under the lights ... prime-time TV ad rates are higher.

Is it this year or next that one of the Talladega races is going to be under
the lights?

I despise night races. It is almost impossible to distinguish the cars at
Daytona at night. Might look good on TV, and I know that is all that matters
to NASCAR now, but it isd bad for fans at the track.

Most of the coverage looked like crap once the sun started to set on Sunday.
Not helped by the moisture on the camera lenses.

I made a post a few months ago about this. I don't remember too many
East coast races starting after 1pm when I was stationed
in the South. I still think NASCAR is catering to the so-called "New
fans" in the West.
