We don't - altho I'd guess they are asking the questions, especially
since Jim Hunter said something about looking at the fence in a
press conference.

They may be a lot of things to a lot of people,

They don't have to tell us their day to day stuff.
But because they don't... doesn't mean they don't have meetings...
No - but on the other hand there's been an awful lot of "we don't
have to worry because we have plates and roof flaps" and "we don't
have to worry because the fence has always worked in the past"
sort of talk over the years...and NASCAR doesn't have a great
history of addressing problems before they appear instead of
after.

That is precisely why the car has not got through the fence.

Give it break already.
You're an engineer?

I hired the engineers who designed the walls and fencing at the Miami
IMSA events. Go ask Ralph Sanchez.

I used to sell CAD systems.

I am a certified industrial machinist.

A good deal of my undergrad was was in IE.

I know just a little bit about engineering. Certainly more thatn the
chicken littles in here.

I also had the pleasure of being on the other side of the wall in
three hard hits at Homestead and was lucky enough to dive below the
wall. I got sprayed with crash dust all three times. Glad I was not
sitting on a seat only 10 feet away getting that debris in my face.

Talladega does not need to redesign the fence, but it does need to
move the seats back to at least 30' from the fence.

I actually agree with you there. Trying to design a fence for
all eventualities is a fools errand.

The two sensible approaches are prevention and mitigation. Moving
the seats back is a reasonable solution, as far as mitigation goes.
Slowing the cars, whether by changing the car or the track, is a
path to prevention.

IMO like TS02_05champ suggested take off the silly looking wing and
spoiler, then open a big hole in the front. Far cheaper than changing
tracks, and easier to reverse if it does not work out.

The big hole is a good idea. Many years ago I suggested they
should require the teams to run Martinsville bodywork at the
plate tracks, with the big brake cooling ducts, to add drag and
slow the cars.
