No doubt about it. I have plenty of doubt Ms G. Nascar wasn't as concerned about their "image" at that point. I'm sorry, but the fact that he died on the track is no different than a driver retiring, or a driver dying on his way to the race, etc.. etc.. etc.. Guess what...? I really disagree with your statement... A police officer that is killed in an off duty traffic accident is remembered quite differently than one who dies in the line of duty... Soldiers who are killed in accidents while serving in a war zone are thought of differently than those who die in battle... If you think these examples don't apply, let me remind you that racing is thought by most to be an extremely dangerous pursuit, certainly the equal of those mentioned above, and those who die at the tracks are honored in quite a different way than those who get nailed by a pie truck on their way to their dentist... Hmm, you know, I'll agree with what you say... that they are indeed honored differently... not saying that I'll agree that they should be though. |

I'm sure the diehard DE fans would hate the thought, but we all know they're a rabid ($1 to Lloyd) bunch anyway. It occurs to me that the overall fan base is spread widely enough across the pool of drivers that the upset over a new team using the number 3 might not be all that great outside of the pool of DE fans. I think it's possible that enough time has gone by that the emotion has faded for a lot of fans and as each year ticks by, it only fades more. It'll be used again, but it won't look like the 3 on DE's car... That graphic will probably be viewed as sacrosanct... |

So who cares? Especially 10 years from now? I never even thought about Johnny Sauter's car sporting the Petty 43 a few weeks ago, till Glen mentioned it was nice seeing a blue cawr with a 43 on it in victory lane again. It was just another car with forty- somethin' on it. |
