I was going to say the very same thing - that it was a control fixation on NASCAR's part, but I was afraid I'd have to do too much explaining of my position and I just didn't have the energy to go there. They don't really care what the punishment is, or even if there
is one. What they care about is having something to talk about,
and getting some attention. It's easier to get attention if
you say "that was the evilest thing I ever saw and he should
get an 8 race suspension" than if you say "ho-hum, trivial,
give him the standard 25 points and lets get on with the race".
