Teresa Earnhardt says it's unlikely Jr. will ever drive the # 3. Let's all speculate as to what that means, exactly. N. What does it mean? Nothing. It's Senior's widow sticking up for Senior's legacy, and honestly I'd expect no less from a Southern lady (especially one in control of Senior's souvenir sales revenue). I say if Junior wants to drive a #3, and Childress wants him to drive a #3 for him, it will happen, with or without Teresa's blessing or approval. Come to think of it, I *think* RC/RCR holds the trademark on Senior's stylized #3, so Teresa couldn't even stop them from using that if they so chose. I'm proud of ya Sim. |

"John McCoy" in ... Well, how about this take, which is, I'm sure, contrary to what all the conspiracy theorists would like to believe. Suspose Teresa expects to keep Jr happily employed driving the #8 for the next dozen years or so. Childress is not that young; in another 10 years he might well decide to do like Jr Johnson and retire. If there isn't a Childress #3, then Jr is much less likely to be interested in driving the number. How old will T be in another 10-12 years? Think she or RC will retire first? Altho McCoy may be correct about Teresa keeping Jr happy (ha ha), |

"s." wrote ... All Childress has the "rights" to is the shape and style of the number as it was used on E's car, not the number itself. Teresa has no dog in this fight either. yes she does, the step-kid, Jr., who works for her. (In other sports this might be considered tampering.) She has no say at all about 3. The number 3 is controlled and assigned by the same one that controls and assigns ALL the numbers (even 43): That is NASCAR ! |

DEI doesn't own the right to run the #3. Childress does. Little E works for his stepmom. I suspect he could quit and go work for his late dad's boss; but I don't think he will. He actually has a pretty solid relationship with Teresa. |

Frankly, I think this whole thread is based on an erroneous theory, that being that Teresa made that comment after Jr made his. After seeing the NASCAR 50 Years After on TV last night I have the sense that it was filmed prior to when Jr made his comments. Therefore, there may well either have been an understanding subsequent to that filming....... or....... Jr simply didn't know that Teresa had made that comment in the filming. I do not think either of them would intentionally contradict the other in that form. DEIfan |

If I'm not mistaken, it is supposed to be used within a certain amount of time, if not, NASCAR takes it back. RCR "might" hold the rights to THE #3, Dale's stylized #3. |

I for one think the 3 should be on the track, when you see it you will always think of Dale earnhardt. Just like when you see the 43 who do you think of? Why keep the 3 on the sidelines so everyone forgets. It's not like retiring some nba players number, It needs to be out on the track. |

I think of John A. when I see the 43 just because of the Cheerios sponsor. |

We should just make an RASN FAQ so we don't have to cover certain topics, among them: 1) Who owns the #3 NASCAR 2) Who killed Dale The car and wall 3) Why plates suck To get gas 4) Why getting rid of North Wilksboro was a communist plot Key word, "was" 5) Why Atlanta stopped being the last race of the year Because it's warmer in Fl 6) Is Janal really a NASCAR journalist Maybe 7) Does Gordon run illegal traction control YES 8) Did Brook divorce Jeff because he was gay / has AIDS.
