Take a back seat to the Mayans, they predicted this

I always wonder if those Mayans were so smart why did they go all extinct?
Did the Spanish flu get them or was it a big old drought?

No more or less than the Sumerians, Egyptians, Greeks, Romans etc...
Hell, there are a whole lot of people living in the U.S. that are
hoping/wishing/working for our demise.

I'd question the "whole lot" wishing & hoping for ................ but the
"working for" may certainly apply

Do not get me wrong. I like auto racing a whole bunch. I just do not think
that is as big a deal as it was twenty years ago. The point I was trying to
say is that auto racing did nothing wrong. The public just moved away from
it. It is not the fault of any France or R2D2 Jimmie Johnson either.

For an example back in the 80's all kinds of car companies were getting
their engines into the Indianapolis 500 open wheel race. And now there are
only like about two left. And the Indianapolis 500 did not change much
since the nineteen aughts or whenever it started. The public just moved
away from being interested in the whole thing.

Just because something is sad does not keep it from being right.

I agree with most of your post. But I disagree that NASCAR and Indy
Cars didn't do anything wrong. The Indy 500 lost a lot of it's appeal
when Tony George split from CART and formed the Indy Racing League.
This split virtually destroyed open wheel racing in the US for years.

And NASCAR has built these ridiculous looking race cars that all look
alike. They are all the exact same shape. Only the fake head and tail
light stickers are different. This is not what NASCAR was founded on.
I understand making the cars safer, but did they have to make it so
ugly? They do not look anything like the street cars, and the fans
cannot identify with them. And taking the races away from places like
North Wilkesboro and Rockingham, and putting them in Southern
California and New Hampshire, and others, was turning their backs on
their roots. I could go on, but you get the picture. NASCAR has made a
lot of mistakes.

There are not too many rear wheel drive V8 cars left besides the Crown Vic
and the Corvette. And maybe whatever Lincoln or Mercury calls their Crown
Vic.

If you are talking about stock cars you are harking back to the 1960's or
1970's when a Regal or a Monte Carlo could be had with an oversized engine.
Or a RoadRunner with a 426 Hemi.

The Hemi GTX was the baddest car ever. Steve McQueen should have driven
that car in the chase scene of that old movie. But that was then and this is
now and there is no point in living in the past.

Nope, not until Dec. 21, 2012.
