There should still be a penalty for this type of error. Considering the
penalty for servicing with a tire just over the line I don't think that at
least a 1 lap penalty would have been too harsh.

It seems to me that this is similar enough to spinning on pit
road that the penalty should be the same.
However, a way to greatly remove the possibility from this
happening again would be to simply require the cars to come down pit
road in ONE line, and NOT allow two lines. They would have to get
into single file before going into pit road. Then this would not
happen.
HOWEVER, if you will notice, there have been far more problems
in the pits since NASCAR started having all the pit road speed limits,
etc! The answer may be to go back to no speed limit, which would
cause them to be far more careful!

these drivers don't belong at this level if they make bonehead moves like that.
would you want people to be driving around without drivers licenses?

I agree with you, but all this "how could he" stuff is just trying to start
a fight in here. I guess my thoughts are toward more discussion and less
"beating up drivers" here.
Sean
Sean McWhom, u do realize where u are at? The FAG Newsgroup!
And u do realize that EVERYTHING that happens on the track or off it,
Jeff Gordon is somehow responsible?
CRU (Why ask why, at least in this FAG newsgroup)

Why must all scream about a driver making a mistake? Yes, there
should/could be more awareness, but, these guys are out there trying to
follow a lot of information at a very high speed under very high
pressure.
Try doing more than one thing while driving on the freeway at high speed
and
be semi-competent around other traffic. Better yet, get one of the
nascar
sims and try a few pit stops and see what you can see.

Glass houses folks, c'mon

Sean

Because it was a dumbass move that could've gotten someone killed. Drivers
at his level shouldn't make those mistakes.

And furthermore it is our sworn duty somewhat like going to a baseball
game...and the obligation to heckle the umpire.

I don't think eliminating the speed limit would be a good idea but I do
think that they are currently far too slow. As to the single file deal
there would always be issues with crippled cars going too slow and possibly
even team mates that are out of contention blocking on pit road. They could
just impose a penalty for any dangerous maneuvering and leave it as a
judgment call.
