I've been saying this for ages. Maybe enough rear spoiler to stabilize the
cars a little, that's all. I remember seeing some damn good races back in
the '60s, and cars didn't have all this aero bs on them back then. Hell,
I'd even go for making them conform to a showroom floor template. If they
call it "stock car" racing, they ought to do at least that, anyway.

If you need to email, then chainbreaker (naturally) at comcast dot
net--that's "net" not "com"--should do it.

I'm not sure about that. You'd have to make the cars really, really
unstable before they have to brake on the plate tracks.

I'm guessing the unrestricted sppeds at Daytona and "Dega would be close
to 240 mph right now. That's an awful lot of speed to lose without
plates.

Remove the aero and the plate!!! I'll bet they only get to just over 200mph
when they find out they can't hold on full throttle in the turns.

What make you think that? The bricks they were driving in 1985 were
capable of pushing 210, with no sign of any lift. Richmond was able to
hit 240 at the Ohio test track.

Given the degree of banking at those tracks, they could probably hit 300
mph before they start sliding sideways.

That's the point though - I'm guessing that 1/2 inch will have a dramatic
effect on stability and if not, take some more off. Take some front air dam
off the cars as well. Use stability to keep the speeds below 200. Couple
that with new tire standards that adversely effect handling as the run
progresses and it seems to me that we could be at the point where we don't
need plates.

Kenny Wallace had a good idea on IWC last night. make the front crossmember
the lowest point on the car, and only allow the front airdam to be as low as
the front crossmember.

How high is that now? Isn't it something like three inches?
If so, that would not be enough. You would need to raise the air dam to
at least 5 inches or more, and cut the spoilers down to two or three
inches to get the speed down below 200 MPH without a plate.

each make has an approved set of heads and intake. so why not go to a 305
limit
on superspeedways. it is only logical that if you make x number of hp with
a
358 engine that a 305 engine will be lower in hp. regulate the lift and
duration of the cam, cut the cubic inches and drop the plates.

or you could just drop the compression on the motors they have now.

Won't work. the lower the compression the more heat
generated. They tried that already.
