Wow! I did almost as well as my horse's cousin in the Kentucky
Derby! Bwana Bull wasn't so hot (14th or so out of 20 horses,) and
neither was my picking ability. Technically Reason is related to
half
of the starting field in the Derby through his paternal
grandfather,
Mr Prospector, but he was related to Bwana Bull through Rea's
maternal
grandfather, Hail to Reason, which was much more impressive to me,
since EVERYBODY seems to have bred to Mr. Prospector!!!

Reason to Shout to my heart's content!!! ;-))- Hide quoted text -

Reason to Shout must have internet access, because he is
three-legged
lame from ripping off his left front shoe tearing around in his
pasture yesterday!!! Farrier is out straight these days, so could
be
next week before THT can torture her OWN horse instead of one of the
school horses!!!!
Sandy, THT
(Yeah, yeah, yeah. The best laid plans and all that rot!!!!)

Why do you want to torture noble horses and then brag about it on the
internet? Are you some sort of mean person?- Hide quoted text -

Of course you silly boy!!! I am just mean and rotten to the core,
trust me! ;-)

But I posit the question: who is exactly being tortured here? I get
up 6 days a week at 4ish am to leave the house NO LATER than 5am to
feed the poor abused animals before I go to the real job as a Vet Tech
at a Veterinary Hospital. I wish I was AS tortured as HRH Reason to
Shout; heck, he works at most an hour at a time 2 or 3 days a month
because his personal handmaiden has to work to keep him in sugar cubes
and has little time to ride (aka, torture!) him!!! So, yes, I am
quite proud of my torturing and love to brag about it to all and
sundry! ;-)

Hey, we could really get off topic and talk about whether cats or dogs
are the smarter animal! Personally, I vote for cats, since you are
OWNED by a cat and never own one of them!!
Sandy, THT
(for 27 years this October, when I sat on one of the beasties for the
first time! Been torturer and torturee ever since! ;-))

Dogs are smarter. You never see the police force employing a mountain
lion
but you often see them employing a Germand Sherherd Dog or some sort of
happy big yellow dog..

In the sake of decency your should find yourself a nicer moniker than
"torturer".- Hide quoted text -

- Show quoted text -

Nah, got dubbed that back in the old days of rasn, and I just stuck
with it. Kind of like the tongue-in-cheek feel to it!

Again, we could argue the smarter animal, but I will throw out the
argument most often used by the defender of the dog being the smarter
one: a dog will run into a burning building to save his/her master,
while the cat just gets the Hell out of there and looks for a new
ownee when the last one is toasted to a crisp. So, who do you
actually think is the smarter of the two? Cat wins hands down on that
one!!!
Sandy, THT
(owned by two cats as well as the "tortured" horse!)

Domestic cats may be prettier than dogs and just as beloved but dogs are
smarter. I have seen the pigs and the military employing horsies and mules
and doggies and even dolphins, but never tabby cats for anything.

Have you ever seen the pigs riding horsies for crowd control? That may not
be as glamorous as the Derby but one horsie sure can move a whole lot of
people to where they should be and four horsies can really move a way big
bunch of people. There is just something about 1200 pounds of bone and
muscle that means business that influences a crown of nice people to do the
right thing.

Wasn't Hard Spun the Danzig son? My friend and I were fascinated by
that fact and had to look up and see if Danzig was even still alive.
He died last year at 29, so Hard Spun had to be in one of his last
foal crops. Just goes to show how the horse racing game has changed,
in that not once during any of the pre-race stuff was Hard Spun's
lineage mentioned.

Ah, but you equate trainability with intelligence! Cats appear to be
untrainable, but they actually can be trained. They are just
motivated by different things than the others of which you speak. And
speaking as a horseperson of many years and experience, horses are not
terribly intelligent; trainable and very valuable for many things, but
not bright! Some of those former police and military mounts make
their way into Therapeutice Riding situations upon retirement from
active duty, where their bomb-proof natures make them a natural fit
for handicapped riders.
