The BBs (broadcast boys) said Talladega had 19 scoring loops - there
used to be a lot less, but they've added a bunch. So I'd say they
have a lot more (2.66 mi. track) than Martinsville.

So there is no standardization. How should it be determined? Loops per
distance or loops per track?

And I still don't like it.

I know you race, as some of us also do/have.
All I can say is, I WISH they had a system like that on
the tracks that we raced at.

I remember one particular race, where I was working
my butt off to pass a guy for the lead.
I think I wore out 20 sets of tires in 8 laps trying
to pass this guy, and finally did, cleanly...
only to have the caution come out as we came out of turn 4..

As is the case, on most Saturday night bullrings, we went
back to the last scored lap... which put him back in front of me...
I know... it's the same for everyone.
But the scenario doesn't come up all that often,
and I ended up losing a race, that I really worked my ass off
for, because some squirrel all by himself,
decided to test out the concrete....
THAT is what determined the outcome of the race.
So really... from a competitor's view, I'd prefer the loop
system, it's just so much more real time.

Off to Richmond.... all done for now...

It happens to us more often than not. It is especially frustrating when
there are several evenly matched cars (as in your example). I am old enough
to remember when local tracks raced back to the green.

But in my view, it is abritrary, just for the facts that I have mentioned.
There should only be one place on the track where positions are determined.
