Hendrick Motorsports is on the verge of announcing that they have reached a deal to sign Joonyer to a multi-year deal. Now this is only part of the deal.Joonyer will actually become a teamate of Jimmie Johnson who actually drives a car co-owned by Rick Hendrick and Jeff Gordon.HMS had petitioned NASCAR concerning a possible "loop hole" in the 4 car limit per team. The irony of the entire episode is the fact that Joonyer will be "owned" by Jeff Gordon.I am sure we have not heard the last of this messs..... How is it that this big, no, HUGE news isn't reported anywhere, even at the rumor mill, Jayski? Did'ja read the link there today? Mulhern's article at: http://www.journalnow.com/servlet/Sa...=1037645509200 Yes, I saw this earlier. And now I see a denial at Jasykis by HMS over the whole deal. Personally, when I see Mulhern post something, I wait for comfirmation since he's usually wrong about 80% of the time on these SWAGs* he puts out. Junior has stated, live and in person on several occasions throughout the years, that YES, he and Tony Jr talk to other teams like this, usually at least once a year. He says, and I believe him (why would he lie?) that it's to find his value in the "sport itself, outside the walls of DEI" so he always has a current idea of what he is worth when it comes to negotiating or renegotiating his contracts with DEI and Bud, etc. I can't blame him since the board room at DEI appears to be such an airtight, powerful, and secretive black whole, that even light can't escape from it...Junebug was lucky just to get to BUY the rights to his own name back afterall. Just like Dean Smith was the only person to ever keep Michael Jordan under 30pts, Teresa is single-handedly preventing her premier team from having any legitimate chances at winning a Cup, IMHO of course. **IF** Joonyer leaves DEI at the end of '07, it will be to team up with RCR. Mark my words. I don't know that a #3 car is in the cards, dunno if I'd even want him to get into that much of an emotional situation, but RC has his back (JR Motorsports runs RC Racing Engines exclusively) and DEJ knows he could count on RC to give him absolutely everything that money could buy in an effort to win him a title, something that Teresa doesn't appear to be doing or even willing to do at this point. I guess no one has dared to show her the marketing upside of winning a Cup lately... *SWAG = Stupid Wild Ass Guess |

Yer right that it would be a huge emotional load. |

We *know* that Junior wants a title...DEI's, JRM's, RCR's or HMS's...machs nix to him, I'd bet. |

able to keep the 8 or just take on a whole new number, wherever he may end up. Honestly, I don't see TEI (what it is to me know) letting go of the 8, so it's likely going to be a brand new number for the kid...which is fine so long as it isn't 6.7 ;-) |

is trying to get out of as it is IMO. I'd like to see him, somehow, be able to keep the 8 or just take on a whole new number, wherever he may end up. It's not just that. This move, to me, says Junior is ready to be Junior and not just Dale's son. To get into the 3, would be stepping right back into his dad's shoes and shadow, which is part of what he is trying to get out of as it is IMO. |

Honestly, I don't see TEI (what it is to me now) Heh-heh! Viv Berstein (NY Times) used that in the presser Q&A session...I liked it enuff to steal it, too.! |

I can't imagine them being farther apart right now, too. 55 million for a majority ownership is stupid, especially when they are talking about merging with Yates. If that were a 100 million dollar organization, they wouldn't be talking mergers, especially since I see it as a buyout from Yates, moving to Ford engines. It could be no other way with Yates making engines for so many teams. -- |
