Default speaking of road courses... - 02-26-2006 , 06:35 PM

Whose idea was it to reconfigure Sears Point a few years ago? they
took out the carousel and keyhole and added the chute or funnel or
whatever it's called. can the owner do whatever he wants? Is it up
to NASCAR? Do the drivers have any input? Wonder what the reason
was?

Remember when Ned or Benny would broadcast from the keyhole cause it
was a heavy breaking area with lots of action?

wondered about F1, too. Hockenheim had all the high speed forest area
removed, making it miles shorter.

I think the sole reason was for more laps. That way the people in the
stands actually got to see the cars more. The keyhole isn't really
close to any large grandstands. Plus I think they thought the chute
would create more passing opportunities than the keyhole.

Do they still wave local cautions? I remember in 2001, Mike Skinner et.
al. were recipients of local cautions, prohibiting passing in that
section. Now it seems like whenever there's a spin, they yellow the
whole course.
